I was in Phnom Penh and there was a whisky and cigar bar next door to my hotel. I stopped in expecting to see outrageous prices but was shocked at how reasonable they were. You can buy a bottle such as this Glenfiddich 12 for $30 USD and drink it in the bar/lounge. The person there told me that other liquor stores in the city buy their bottles to resell them.

Glenfiddich 12 Years Old is a smooth and approachable Speyside single malt known for its easy drinking style and fresh fruit character. On the nose, it shows bright orchard fruits like pear and apple with soft vanilla and light honey. The palate is light and mellow, with notes of sweet malt, butterscotch, citrus, and gentle oak. The finish is clean, soft, and slightly sweet, fading quickly with a light fruity and vanilla warmth that makes it very easy to enjoy.

I was very tempted by this Bruchladdich 21 at that price at Duty Free in Phnom Penh, Cambodia but didn’t pull the trigger. Looking back I sort of wish I did.

A striking contrast of craftsmanship, Octomore 15.1 and Bruichladdich 21 Years Old showcase both intensity and elegance in Islay whisky. On the nose, expect a powerful wave of earthy peat smoke from the Octomore, softened by hints of vanilla and citrus, while the Bruichladdich 21 reveals refined aromas of dried fruits, honey, and gentle coastal notes. The palate unfolds with Octomore’s bold smoky richness layered with sweet malt and charred oak, balanced by the 21 year old’s smooth and complex profile of caramel, spice, and ripe fruit. The finish is long and memorable, with lingering peat warmth from Octomore intertwined with Bruichladdich’s silky and subtly maritime sweetness, leaving a refined and enduring impression.

This display represents a “greatest hits” collection from the House of Suntory, featuring the prestigious holy trinity of Japanese whisky: Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Hibiki. For the enthusiast, this lineup offers a masterclass in balance and “Omotenashi” craftsmanship. The nose is an elegant bouquet of sandalwood, honeyed orchard fruits, and a delicate floral brightness. On the palate, you’ll experience a transition from the silky vanilla and jammy dark fruits of the Yamazaki to the crisp, herbaceous “green” notes of the Hakushu forest distillery. The finish is impeccably clean and enduring, leaving a signature trail of spicy Mizunara oak and a faint, sweet wisp of incense that lingers long after the glass is empty.

This was at the duty free shop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and though I wasn’t tempted to buy it, I believe the price is fair for this limited bottle.

Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition is an ultra-luxury American bourbon that feels more like a collector’s masterpiece than an everyday whisky. It is Woodford Reserve finished for extra years in XO Cognac casks and presented in a handcrafted Baccarat crystal decanter, which is a big part of its prestige and price.

On the nose, it shows rich toasted oak, chocolate, vanilla, dried fruits, citrus peel, and warm baking spices. The palate is smooth and layered with dark chocolate, caramel, sweet dried fruit, and creamy oak influenced by the cognac finish. The finish is long, velvety, and elegant, with caramel, mocha, gentle spice, and a soft fruity warmth that lingers.

Overall, it is designed as a luxury expression of bourbon where craftsmanship, packaging, and cognac influence come together in a very refined and opulent style.

I haven’t tried the yet but was tempted at this Duty Free in Phnom Penh, Cambodian. Not sure how the price is but if I had to guess I would guess it is a bit high.

This selection showcases the versatility of Jack Daniel’s, ranging from accessible, flavored liqueurs like Honey and Apple on the bottom to high-integrity “Bonded” expressions in the middle that offer a punchier 100-proof experience. The standout is the top-shelf American Single Malt, a sophisticated travel-exclusive finished in Oloroso Sherry casks that signals the brand’s ambitious move into the world of luxury sipping spirits. Together, these shelves represent the distillery’s evolution from a classic Tennessee whiskey staple into a diverse house of craft innovation.

This was at the Duty Free shop in Phnom Penh airport. I’m a big Dalmore fan but am not too familiar with this bottling.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series is a collection of luxury single malts that showcase the distillery’s signature rich, sherried style enhanced through exceptional cask finishing. Each expression is crafted with multi-cask maturation, often including sherry, port, Madeira, and wine casks, resulting in deep complexity and layered elegance. On the nose, expect opulent aromas of dried fruits, orange zest, dark chocolate, coffee, and warm spice. The palate is full-bodied and indulgent, with notes of toffee, caramel, stewed fruit, baking spices, and rich oak. The finish is long, smooth, and luxurious, leaving lingering sweetness, spice, and dark fruit richness that highlight Dalmore’s bold yet refined character.

I’ve never seen an Aberlour I didn’t like so seeing these at Duty Free and an airport in Cambodia made me stop. I still had a couple of countries I was traveling to after so I didn’t buy any.

This display showcases the rich, sherried heritage of Aberlour, a Speyside icon known for its mastery of “Double Cask” maturation. For the whisky lover, this lineup is particularly interesting because it features rare Global Travel Retail exclusives like the Suthainn—which utilizes a unique Solera system for added depth—and the 13 Year Old, alongside the legendary A’bunadh, a cult-classic cask-strength “sherry bomb.” The nose across this collection is a decadent invitation of spiced orange, toasted praline, and dark, jammy fruits like damson and raisin. On the palate, you’ll find a luxurious, creamy texture where sweet butterscotch and red apple notes from American oak harmonize with the deep ginger, dark chocolate, and nutmeg spice of Oloroso sherry casks. The finish is robust and enduring, evolving from a punchy, peppery warmth into a long, bittersweet fade of oak char and dried vine fruits that perfectly captures the “everlasting” spirit of the distillery.

I was in a hotel in Phnom Penh and there was a cigar lounge and whisky bar next door. While I was waiting for my Grab car (taxi), I walked in and looked. This was a great price for the Glenfiddich 15 and the best part was that you can buy the bottle and drink it there in the lounge and also smoke ci**rs.

The prices were really good here—especially for a bar and the person there told me that other liquor stores in the city buy their whisky from them to resell. Unfortunately I didn’t make it back before they closed and then they were closed for a holiday before I left.

Glenfiddich 15 Years Old is a smooth and slightly richer Speyside single malt known for its signature Solera maturation, giving it extra depth and consistency. On the nose, it shows honey, dried fruit, vanilla, toffee, and soft oak with hints of apple and spice. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, with layers of raisins, figs, caramel, marzipan, citrus peel, and gentle cinnamon and ginger warmth. The finish is long, mellow, and lightly spicy, leaving sweet oak, dried fruit, and soft cocoa notes that fade smoothly and elegantly.

I was recently in Hong Kong airport and saw these prices on various Macallan bottles. I’ve bought a lot of bottles in Hong Kong Duty Free before but didn’t this time.

This striking display of The Macallan showcases a refined spectrum of the distillery’s artistry, from the expressive Harmony Collection to the deeper, more luxurious Rare Cask offerings, all unified by their signature sherry-cask influence. On the nose, these whiskies typically open with rich waves of dried fruits, orange peel, and dark chocolate, layered with warming spices and polished oak. The palate leans into velvety textures, delivering notes of caramel, raisins, baked apples, and hints of ginger or nutmeg, with certain expressions adding a darker edge of cocoa and toasted wood. Across the range, the finish is elegant and lingering, often marked by sweet spice, gentle oak dryness, and a refined balance that reflects Macallan’s meticulous cask selection. Altogether, this lineup offers whisky lovers a journey from approachable richness to deep, contemplative complexity, making it both a visual and sensory centerpiece for any serious collection.
