🔍 Industry Trend

In addition, as we shared before, there has recently been a major development in the sorbic acid industry.

A research team from Fujian Normal University published a study in Nature Communications demonstrating the possibility of producing sorbic acid through yeast fermentation instead of traditional chemical synthesis.

Although the current yield is still only 1.84 g/L, several critical technical barriers have already been solved, including reducing product inhibition and significantly improving pathway efficiency. The team has also completed a workable process in a 50L fermenter.

With downstream food companies paying more attention to “natural source” and “clean label” ingredients, this could become an important long-term shift for the sorbic acid industry. Based on the development pace of similar synthetic biology products, pilot-scale production may become possible within the next 3–5 years.

As a professional food ingredients supplier, we continue to support our customers with:

✅ Stable supply
✅ Competitive pricing
✅ Reliable quality
✅ Professional export service

Encapsulated citric acid is often discussed as a “controlled-release acidulant” —
but in real production, performance depends on much more than that.

From a formulation and processing perspective, several technical parameters directly determine its effectiveness:

– Encapsulation efficiency (≥97%)
High encapsulation rate ensures minimal free acid exposure, reducing premature reactions and improving material utilization.

– Particle size (25–60 mesh, customizable)
Controls dissolution behavior, dispersion uniformity, and reaction timing in different systems.

– Core-to-wall ratio (60–90% core)
Balances acid strength and protection level, impacting release profile and cost efficiency.

– Release mechanism design
Hydrophilic (moisture-triggered) vs hydrophobic (temperature-triggered, 57–74°C or customized)
→ directly affects when and how acidification occurs in your process.

These factors are critical in applications such as:
powdered beverages, seasoning systems, confectionery, meat processing, and effervescent formulations—
where premature reaction, hygroscopicity, and inconsistent acidity are common challenges.

🎬 In this video, we provide a quick overview of:
– How encapsulated citric acid works
– Key application scenarios
– Basic selection considerations

⚠️Sorbic acid may be entering a new era of bio-based production.

For years, this ingredient category has been stable and low-profile—mature technology, predictable costs, and limited innovation.

That is now starting to change.

On April 21, Nature Communications published a study showing that researchers successfully engineered yeast to produce sorbic acid, reaching 1.84 g/L in a 50L fermentation system.

This development has also been highlighted in the latest April industry report by IMARC Group, recognizing it as a meaningful step toward more sustainable sorbic acid production.

✅Why it matters:

Reduces reliance on fossil-based raw materials
Aligns with clean-label and carbon reduction trends
Opens a new direction for long-term supply chain development

📌Still early stage:
Industrial-scale viability is not yet achieved, and cost, stability, and scale-up remain key challenges.

But it is a signal the industry cannot ignore.

We are sharing this as part of our ongoing industry tracking—and would be very interested to hear from our partners and customers:

China Food Ingredients Price Trend Insight (Updated: 2026-04-09)

📊 Market Overview
The overall market is showing a firm-to-bullish trend, driven by supply-side discipline, tightening availability in key products, and strong downstream demand. While some raw material costs remain relatively soft in the short term, demand resilience is supporting prices and strengthening market confidence.

As a reliable food ingredients supplier, we continuously monitor market dynamics and share insights to support your sourcing decisions.

🔹 Phosphoric Acid / Phosphates
Suppliers are controlling shipment volumes and holding firm on pricing, while downstream buyers show clear “buy-on-rise” sentiment, supporting transaction activity.
➡️ Short-term outlook: High-level fluctuation with strong support

🔹 Xanthan Gum
Rising raw material costs and tight supply have pushed major manufacturers to increase prices and prioritize key customers.
➡️ Outlook: Continued upward trend under supply pressure

🔹 Potassium Sorbate
Some factories are operating at reduced rates or temporarily halted, strengthening price support strategies.
➡️ Outlook: Ongoing upward movement driven by limited supply

🔹 Vitamin C
Since the second half of 2025, major mannufacturers have repeatedly suspended quotations in an effort to stabilize the market, yet prices have remained at relatively low levels so far.

Factories are showing strong willingness to support and rebalance prices, while market sentiment is gradually improving. Given the large global market size and the high concentration of production in China, export dynamics continue to be closely watched.
➡️ Outlook: High volatility with gradual recovery potential

🔹 Dextrose (Monohydrate) & Maltodextrin
As core base ingredients, they are widely used in food & beverages, fermentation products (amino acids, organic acids), pharmaceuticals, and nutrition applications.

Although corn prices have remained relatively weak recently due to active selling by traders and cautious downstream purchasing, the spot market for dextrose and maltodextrin remains firm. Strong order intake from downstream factories has resulted in tight production schedules and limited availability.

Driven by this, leading factories such as Fufeng have raised ex-factory prices, reinforcing market confidence.

➡️ Outlook: Stable to firm, supported by strong demand despite soft cost pressure
