Whenever we host a guest at our facility, we usually stop right in front of our massive bioreactors.

We ask them a simple question: "Can you tell whether the batch inside is being produced for a human or a pet?"

They always hesitate. And that hesitation is exactly where we break down the biggest myth in our industry: the belief that cultivated pet food uses a "simpler" or lower-quality setup.

❌ It couldn't be more wrong.

In biotechnology, physics and biology don't care who the final consumer is. A bioreactor does not lower its standards because the end product is for a dog or a cat.

The truth is simple:

🦠 Yet contamination is the #1 killer of biotech ambitions. Sterilization isn’t a sexy topic for magazines, but our entire business rests on it.

🛠️ Before cells enter our facility, every single tube, valve, and sensor must be 100% biologically sterile. That’s why our CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilize-in-Place) systems have undergone rigorous, unforgiving testing.

You can’t shape the future of food by staying inside the production facility. You have to be in the room where the rules are written.

On 1 July, our CEO Roman Kriz and Public Affairs strategist Armin Keshavarz traveled to Brussels for the Biomanufacturing Policy Summit. 🇧🇪

They sat down with key voices from the European Parliament, the European Commission (DG SANTE, DG ENVI, DG AGRI etc.), EuropaBio, and other industry stakeholders.

💭 Our message to them was clear:

Cultivated meat is no longer just a "scientific innovation" on a plate. It is the ultimate gateway to Europe’s broader biotech and biomanufacturing ambitions.

Imagine developing a technology that could change the future of food, but people are afraid of it simply because they don't understand it. 🍔

That is exactly one of the things we do. We are working to bring cultivated meat to the market and raise visibility for our entire industry. That’s why we regularly attend conferences to introduce the real benefits it will bring to humanity.

Last week, we headed to Basel Food Week for this very reason.

When we started talking about gene editing, a murmur went through the room. For many people, it is still a bugbear labeled as "GMO".

⚠️ But then came the moment.

We explored how cultivated meat has the potential to be more than just an ethical and environmental solution. We explained that it's important not to treat all genetic technologies as the same. 💡

Increasingly, there is recognition that new genomic techniques (NGTs), which make precise, targeted edits without introducing foreign DNA, deserve to be considered differently from older GMO technologies.

Through these NGTs, we can, in the future, improve nutrition by enhancing what's already good about meat while reducing or eliminating less desirable traits, such as certain allergens. As science advances, it's equally important that the public conversation evolves alongside it.

We watched as the mistrust in the audience's eyes turned into curiosity. People outside our industry rarely get a chance to hear how science actually works and why scientists are so excited about it!

Whether it's enhancing nutritional value, reducing allergens, or unlocking entirely new possibilities for food production, these are conversations worth having. 💬

The future of food will only benefit from open, informed dialogue; and we look forward to being part of it.
