Izzy and I love to snuggle and drink tea together. Rooibos is not just a warm drink, it's a moment shared with those that we love. How wonderful that these moments make up some of my favourite memories with my Mini Me.

Back to Where It All Begins 🌱
Last week, we escaped to the breathtaking Cederberg to spend time with our Rooibos farmers — reconnecting with nature, our people, and the land that makes Sunbird Rooibos so special.
A grounding experience, and a beautiful reminder that every cup starts here — rooted in soil, sunshine, and generations of care. What a wonderful way to celebrate what we do, right before Worker's Day!

Sunrise or Sunset...it's always a good time to drink Rooibos!

I travelled to Mozambique over the holidays and absolutely had to take my Sunbird Rooibos with me. (If you aren't sure which one to choose, our Cederberg Classic is, quite literally, a classic!)

Rested, recharged and ready to serve you your favourite Rooibos again! (I hope you all had a wonderful break!)

Hot Cross Buns, the Rooibos Way!

With Easter approaching I tried out this delicious new recipe using our Spiced Orange Rooibos (Which also happens to be our April variety of the month).

Too good not to share:

Rooibos Hot Cross Buns

Rooibos Infusion:

2 rooibos tea bags (or 2 tbsp loose leaf)

250 ml boiling water

Dough:

500 g cake flour

75 g sugar

1 tsp salt

2 tsp mixed spice

1 tsp cinnamon

10 g instant yeast

75 g butter (softened)

1 egg

150 ml warm rooibos tea

100 ml warm milk

1 cup raisins or sultanas (soaked in rooibos)

Crosses:

½ cup flour

5–6 tbsp water

Glaze

2 tbsp apricot jam

1 tbsp hot water

Method:

Steep tea in boiling water for 5–10 minutes. Allow to cool slightly.

Soak raisins/sultanas in warm Rooibos for 15–20 minutes.

Combine dry ingredients. Add butter, egg, Rooibos tea, and milk. Mix into a soft dough.

Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Knead in soaked fruit until evenly distributed.

Cover and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.

Divide into 12 buns, place on a lined tray, and leave space between each.

Mix flour and water into a paste and pipe crosses onto buns.

Bake at 180°C for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Mix apricot jam with hot water and brush over warm buns.

Serving Suggestion

Serve warm with butter and a freshly brewed cup of Rooibos tea.
