🧱🔴⚪ EZRI KONSA — NEW STEEL AT THE EMIRATES!

There are games where a centre-back does not need a goal or an assist to become one of the biggest talking points.

Sometimes, it is enough to be in the right place, win your duels and step up when the team needs you most.

Ezri Konsa did exactly that against Chelsea.

Playing as the right-sided centre-back alongside Gabriel, Konsa was handed a demanding role.

With Arsenal pushing their defensive line high, Mikel Arteta was prepared to leave his new English defender isolated in one-v-one situations against João Pedro.

And for the most part, Konsa dealt with those battles with remarkable composure.

No panic.

No diving into challenges recklessly.

He kept his distance, read the attacker’s movement and waited for the right moment to step in.

🔥 But the moment that truly brought the Emirates to its feet came in the 56th minute.

Arsenal lost possession and Cole Palmer immediately slipped a pass through for Rogers to break into space down the left.

For a split second, the Gunners’ back line was completely exposed, and Konsa was almost the last man standing between the attacker and Arsenal’s goal.

Rogers pushed the ball slightly too far ahead.

Konsa exploded across the ground, closed the gap and launched into an almost perfectly timed sliding tackle.

Ball gone. Man stopped.

The Emirates erupted. 👏

After the game, Arteta described it as an “English tackle” — and it was difficult to imagine a more fitting description.

Power.

Commitment.

Timing.

Precision.

Everything you want from a defender in one moment.

But Konsa’s impact was not limited to his own penalty area.

As early as the 12th minute, he was involved in a set-piece situation that ended with Riccardo Calafiori putting the ball into Chelsea’s net.

Unfortunately, VAR ruled that Konsa had been in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.

Then, in the 72nd minute, the English centre-back came close again.

From Bukayo Saka’s corner, Konsa rose highest and powered a header towards goal.

Only a sharp reaction on the line from Emiliano Martínez denied him his first Arsenal goal.

Two major threats from set pieces.

And at the other end:

That is an incredibly complete defensive performance.

And perhaps even more encouraging was Konsa’s quality in possession.

Completing 41 of 43 passes, while also playing four line-breaking passes, showed that he is not simply a defender who can win his battles.

He is also comfortable enough on the ball to contribute to Arsenal’s build-up from deep — something that is virtually non-negotiable for a centre-back in Arteta’s system.

❤️🤍 These are still only the first steps of Konsa’s Arsenal journey, but he is already showing many of the qualities this defence needs:

Quick. Strong. Composed. Decisive. And completely comfortable being left in one-v-one situations.

If this is the version of Konsa we are going to see regularly this season, then Arteta may just have found another true warrior to stand alongside Gabriel.

🔥🔴⚪ BEN WHITE — I’M STILL HERE, BOSS!

While many players were either taking a break after last season or away competing at the World Cup, Ben White may well have been quietly preparing himself for the moment his opportunity arrived.

And now that it has, he is making the most of it.

White has featured in all four of Arsenal’s games this season and has consistently delivered positive performances. With Jurrien Timber sidelined through injury, the English defender is sending a very clear message to Mikel Arteta:

Don’t forget — I’m still a top-quality option at right-back. 💪

White’s biggest strength remains what he offers going forward.

He knows when to push high, times his overlaps extremely well and has the quality to deliver dangerous balls into the box.

When White and Riccardo Calafiori operate on opposite flanks, Arsenal can suddenly have two full-backs willing to step forward and join attacks, giving the Gunners extra numbers and more ways to hurt the opposition.

That is the Ben White every Gooner already knows.

A right-back who is always ready to support Bukayo Saka, overlap down the outside, get close to the byline and become an extra attacking piece whenever Arsenal need him.

And purely from an attacking point of view, White arguably offers qualities that even Timber does not match in certain areas.

Timber still looks the more secure defender, especially in one-v-one situations and when Arsenal need greater control and risk management.

That is one of the reasons why Arteta has often preferred the Dutchman.

But this strong return from White is exactly what Arsenal need.

Because a team hoping to compete on multiple fronts cannot survive with only 11 first-choice players.

Arteta needs positions where the backup is good enough to make the starter constantly look over his shoulder.

If White can stay fit and maintain this level of performance, the battle between him and Timber on the right-hand side is going to be seriously interesting.

And the biggest winner will be Arsenal.

Arteta gets more rotation options.

Timber does not have to play every single game.

White has the motivation to keep pushing.

And most importantly, the manager can choose the type of full-back that best suits the opponent and the game state.

🎯🔴⚪ KAI HAVERTZ — THE MORE YOU WATCH HIM, THE MORE YOU UNDERSTAND WHY ARTETA TRUSTS HIM

If you judge Kai Havertz purely by goals, he may never belong in the same conversation as the elite “goal machines” of world football.

But if you judge a striker by his tactical intelligence and overall contribution to the team, it becomes much easier to understand why Mikel Arteta has always placed so much faith in Havertz.

Kai really is a different kind of forward.

He can drop deep to connect with the midfield, hold the ball up, combine with teammates, lead the press from the front and, perhaps most importantly, his off-the-ball movement is incredibly intelligent.

There are spaces most of us have barely noticed before Havertz is already arriving in them.

And that is what makes Kai different from a pure goalscorer like Erling Haaland.

Haaland is obviously on another level when it comes to ruthless finishing and sheer goal output. But Havertz offers a different skill set — greater involvement in the build-up, more positional flexibility and a willingness to carry out so many tactical responsibilities for the team.

The biggest issue with Kai, however, is something every Gooner already knows: His chance conversion.

Havertz is excellent at getting himself into scoring positions.

The frustrating part is that too often, he needs several good opportunities before finally putting one away.

And that is the line separating the current Havertz from another level entirely.

Because just imagine this version of Kai — with the same movement, pressing, link-up play, physical presence and tactical intelligence — but with a truly ruthless edge in front of goal...

That would be one frightening No. 9. 🥶

And the more we watch him, the easier it becomes to understand why Arteta so often trusts Havertz to lead the line.

Not everything a striker brings to a team can be measured by goals.

But of course, when you are wearing the No. 9 shirt for Arsenal, goals will ultimately remain one of the biggest measures of success.

If Kai can stay fit for the majority of the season and become more clinical with the chances he gets, there is absolutely no reason why he cannot become one of the players who ultimately make the difference in Arsenal’s title challenge.

Rival fans might say the defence he has just faced was hardly the toughest test.

And to an extent, that is fair.

But Havertz’s quality in possession, his positioning, his combination play and his ability to read space are not qualities that suddenly appear just because the opposition is weaker.

Those are qualities he brings with him every week.

And now there is only one thing we want to see more of:

Kai, turn more of those chances into goals.

No need for an overly flashy performance. Martin Ødegaard simply controlled the game, connected his teammates and then put his own name on the scoresheet.

A very Ødegaard-like stat line: precise, creative, hard-working and effective.

The Arsenal captain regularly dropped deeper into midfield to receive the ball, link the lines and help the Gunners move possession at a high tempo.

Rather than holding onto the ball for too long, Ødegaard constantly looked for quick one-touch and two-touch combinations, pulling Coventry’s defensive structure out of shape and opening spaces for those around him.

And once again, the right-hand side became his natural playground.

That is where Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka continue to speak a footballing language built over several seasons together.

One moves, the other finds the space.

One drags a defender away, the other immediately attacks the gap that has just opened up.

His three chances created were another reminder of just how influential Ødegaard can be when Arsenal enter the final third.

But perhaps the most encouraging part of his performance was not only the creativity.

It was the intensity.

Not a glamorous signing. No eye-watering transfer fee that sent shockwaves across the Premier League. But on his very first appearance on English football’s biggest stage, Christos Tzolis showed exactly why Arsenal decided to put their faith in him.

A remarkably complete set of numbers for a player making his Premier League debut.

But what should excite Gooners even more is the way Tzolis immediately looked at home in Mikel Arteta’s system.

From the opening minutes, the Greek winger played with real intent.

He constantly demanded the ball, searched for pockets of space and looked to turn every possession into something that could hurt Coventry.

No unnecessary tricks. No attempt to turn every touch into an individual highlight reel.

Receive. Scan. Execute. Move again.

Simple. Direct. Effective.

Within the opening ten minutes, Tzolis was already finding himself in dangerous areas.

When the opportunity was there, he drifted inside into the half-space to look for shooting positions. When Arsenal needed to stretch Coventry’s defensive shape, he stayed wide on the left and gave the team the width it needed.

🔥 Then came his first major contribution in the 15th minute.

Tzolis pressed Milan van Ewijk, won possession high inside Coventry’s half and moved the ball to Riccardo Calafiori.

And perhaps that is exactly what Arteta has been looking for on the left.

Of course, we should not get carried away just yet.

This was only his first game.

Coventry are newly promoted, and Tzolis will face far tougher full-backs, matches played at much greater intensity and opponents who will leave him almost no space at all.

There will be much more difficult tests ahead.

But if we are judging only his first 90 minutes in the Premier League, Tzolis showed almost everything Arsenal could ask for from a left winger.

Creating chances.

Direct attacking.

Intelligent movement.

Aggressive pressing.

Supporting his teammates.

And constantly getting himself into areas where he can hurt the opposition.

❤️🤍 This is the kind of transfer every club dreams of making.

You do not always have to spend a fortune on a global superstar.

Sometimes the best business is finding a player before the rest of the world starts chasing him, bringing him in for a sensible fee and then watching him walk straight into the team and show that he belongs at this level.

Christos Tzolis has only played one game.

But after that debut, Gooners have another seriously exciting name to watch on Arsenal’s left flank.

An under-the-radar signing today.

But who knows?

🔴⚪️ ARSENAL AND THE HABIT OF STARTING THE SEASON WITH A WIN!

The Gunners have now won their opening Premier League fixture in five consecutive seasons:

◉ 2-1 vs Nottingham Forest
◉ 2-0 vs Wolves
◉ 1-0 vs Manchester United
◉ 3-0 vs Coventry City

That level of consistency deserves real credit. It also shows that under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have developed a habit of laying strong foundations from the very first step of the season. ❤️🤍

And once again, one name continues to make his mark: Kai Havertz.

The German forward has now scored Arsenal’s opening goal in two of our last three Premier League season openers.

Havertz may not be the kind of player who leaves everyone speechless with every touch. He has his limitations, and there will always be debates among supporters about his best position and his place in the starting XI.

But there is one thing that is very difficult to question:

Kai fights.
Kai runs.
Kai contributes.

Not everything Havertz brings to this Arsenal side shows up on the stat sheet.

🔥🔴⚪️ ARSENAL COULDN’T HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER START!

The Gunners came flying out of the blocks against Coventry City, taking complete control from the opening whistle and quickly turning the game into a showcase of their attacking quality.

⚽ 15’ — Kai Havertz broke the deadlock, giving Arsenal the perfect platform to take charge.

🔥 Just eight minutes later, Bukayo Saka struck to double the lead, as Mikel Arteta’s side completely dominated proceedings in the first half.

And Arsenal showed absolutely no signs of slowing down after the break.

🔴⚪ Gabriel Martinelli: Is It Time for Arsenal to Move On?

It’s not a case of Arsenal having to sell Martinelli simply because an offer arrives, but this could be the right moment to seriously consider moving on.

Arsenal are open to letting Gabriel Martinelli leave if the right offer comes in and a suitable replacement is secured. Galatasaray previously made an offer of around €45 million, but Martinelli has no interest in moving to Turkey. If he leaves Arsenal, he would only consider a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.

His contract runs until 2027, with an option for another year. At 25, this could be the window in which Arsenal can still command a significant transfer fee before his market value begins to decline.

The problem is his output

Last season, Martinelli made 53 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 7 assists across all competitions.

Those numbers aren't terrible, but his Premier League output was considerably less convincing.

Martinelli scored just one league goal in around 30 appearances, with much of his playing time coming as a rotation option rather than as an undisputed starter.

There is no doubt that he still possesses electric pace, explosive acceleration and an excellent work rate when pressing, but his consistency and ability to consistently make the difference in the final third haven't quite reached the level expected from a starting winger at Arsenal.

Arsenal need an upgrade on the left

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal's recruitment team have been looking at ways to improve the left flank for some time.

If Arsenal can find a winger who is clearly better than Martinelli, then selling him and reinvesting the money into an upgrade could make sense from both a footballing and financial perspective.

However, if the club only receives average offers or cannot find a replacement of sufficient quality, keeping Martinelli would still be the safer option.

He knows Arteta's system, has plenty of Premier League experience and remains a useful squad player who can provide pace and intensity when needed.

So, should Arsenal sell?

For me, the answer is yes — but only under the right circumstances.

If a major club comes in with an offer of around £50 million or more, and Arsenal manage to sign a player who represents a clear upgrade on the left wing, then this could be the perfect moment to part ways with Martinelli.

He has made a significant contribution since joining Arsenal in 2019, and at just 25, there is still plenty of football left in him.

But for a club that wants to remain at the very top, difficult decisions sometimes have to be made.

Martinelli is a very good player.

But Arsenal are trying to build a squad capable of competing for the biggest trophies every single season.

And sometimes, taking the next step means moving on from players who are very good — but perhaps not quite elite enough to take the team where it wants to go. 🔴⚪

If the right offer arrives and the right replacement is available, perhaps it really is time for Arsenal and Martinelli to say goodbye.

🔴⚪ KAI HAVERTZ, VIKTOR GYÖKERES OR GABRIEL JESUS — WHO SHOULD START AGAINST MAN CITY?
Strip away the bias and look purely at what we’ve seen in pre-season, and it’s clear Mikel Arteta still hasn’t settled on his first-choice centre-forward.
Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyökeres and Gabriel Jesus have all been given minutes across the three friendlies so far. And here’s the twist: each of them has found the net once. 🎯
Havertz and Jesus scored from open play. Gyökeres converted from the penalty spot. On pure numbers, no one has pulled clear of the pack.
That’s exactly why Arteta is still weighing his options.
Gyökeres needs time to settle into the system — to understand the movement patterns of his new teammates and adapt to Arteta’s tactical demands. Jesus is working his way back from a difficult spell and is still searching for that sharp edge. Havertz, meanwhile, already knows the Arsenal way inside out. He understands exactly how Arteta wants the team to function.
If I had to pick one to start against Manchester City in the Community Shield, I’d go with Kai Havertz.
Not because he’s definitively the best pure No.9 of the three, but because this is a big occasion and Havertz has experience in games of this magnitude. He’s already shown he can deliver the pressing intensity, link-up play and intelligent off-the-ball movement that Arteta values so highly.
That said, Gyökeres is the name that keeps nagging at me.
He’s the big-money arrival, the new spearhead, and a player who desperately needs minutes to integrate. If Arteta wants to fast-track him into the starting XI, the Community Shield could be the perfect stage.
And Gabriel Jesus? I’d keep him as a deadly weapon off the bench. 🔥
One thing I’m fairly certain about: Havertz won’t be playing as a regular No.10 this season. Arteta trialled him there in two pre-season games and, frankly, it didn’t convince. With Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze both fully fit, there’s little reason to shoehorn Havertz into that role.
His real value is as a centre-forward — through his movement, aerial ability and knack for finding space.
So the genuine battle right now is for one position between three names:
Havertz — Gyökeres — Jesus. 👀
The best part? Arteta doesn’t have to rush. Pre-season still gives him time to watch, experiment and settle on the right formula.
If it were my call:
🥇 Starter: Kai Havertz
🥈 Impact sub: Viktor Gyökeres
🥉 Game-changer off the bench: Gabriel Jesus
But I wouldn’t be shocked if Arteta throws us all a curveball.
Because the fight for Arsenal’s No.9 shirt this season looks set to be one hell of a contest. 🔴⚪🔥
