Hazelnut and rye brownies

I'm not the biggest brownie fan, but a lot of people in my life love them, so I'm always willing to try a new recipe out to help find 'the one' (my 'one' is the Katherine Hepburn brownie recipe - dark and indulgent and simply perfect, every time) The rye flour and roasted hazelnuts give a nice toasty taste to these brownies, and although the texture didn't do it for me, some of my beloved brownie lovers really enjoyed it. Bonus, they freeze well!

Mhajeb - Algerian flatbread

This has been one of those bakes that has been on my to-do list for ages. These delicious flatbreads are stuffed with a slow-cooked, spicy onion and tomato filling and then cooked quickly in the pan until they're crisp. That filling was out of this world: it's a miracle there was any left for the flatbreads, as I kept sneaking a bit from the pan! I followed 's recipe for these, and I heartily encourage you to do the same. They're relatively simple and 100% worth it!

BTW they freeze well too! Make double and thank yourself later 😉

Cinnamon Bun Slice

I don't need much of an excuse to make these, but seeing as it's officially cinnamon season, I thought I'd whip up a batch for a quick hit. These soft, delicious slices are from Edd Kimber's Small Batch Bakes book, and are a firm favourite in my house, no matter the season. I sometimes make a double batch, just so I have a permanent stash in the freezer! I love the veins of cinnamon sugar through the sponge - really the perfect cake to have on a cold Autumn day!

Double Chocolate Cookies

I'm always a sucker for a good cookie recipe, and this one from Paul Hollywood's Bake is just that. It comes together quick, tastes great after a rest in the fridge, and is more indulgent than sweet - just my thing.

Anzac Caramel Biscuits

I adore this bake from Edd Kimber's One Tin Bakes, but I have to limit how often I make it as I could devour half a tray in a day (probably). The combination of the caramel and chocolate on top of the chewy, oaty, coconutty Anzac base is irresistible to me. THEY'RE SO GOOD!

When I do (reluctantly) share them with others, they go down a treat and are perfect when you want to feed a crowd. Please make them, but be warned, you *will* eat more than one!

Tomato Focaccia 🍅

If I tell you that this is the Nicola Lamb focaccia recipe, then you already know how good it was!

Soft and bubbly, with gorgeous roast tomatoes on top - it was a dream. I wish I'd taken a picture of the full focaccia once it was baked (swipe to see the pre-bake bubbles!), but we couldn't wait to tear into it fresh from the oven. A heavenly focaccia, and perfect for serving guests.

Cinnamon Roll Focaccia

I know I'm months behind everyone else in making this, but I'm slowly warming up to baking more as my kitchen cools down. This Benjamina Ebuehi recipe is easy and, most importantly, truly delicious. I love the light texture and slightly savoury cinnamon taste as an alternative to denser cinnamon buns. I think next time I'll try separating the dough in muffin tins for individual cinnamon focaccia buns!

Oatmeal Ginger Slices

It's Edd Kimber week at and I had to join in! I love Edd's recipes as they're always achievable and utterly delicious. Bonus points if I have most of the ingredients in the cupboard as I did with this recipe!

These bars have anzac biscuit-esque base and lovely ginger icing on top. They're from One Bakes Easy (lots of hidden treasures inside!) and are a lovely afternoon treat.

Torta della Nonna ☀️

What a glorious summer I've had! So many fantastic memories made with friends and family, and naturally, a lot of good eating.

This summer is when I first had a slice of torta della nonna in the sun, by the sea, on my birthday. My friend and I enjoyed the sweet pastry and lemony creamed custard so much that I promised to try making it the next time we met.

I dutifully followed through, and although pastry isn't my strong suit, I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

(btw, that's some dealcholised Riesling in the background - who knew such a thing existed? Surprisingly pleasant!)

Easy, quick, and draped in chocolate - what more is there to say? LOVE.

The recipe is from the 5-ingredient section in One Tin Bakes Easy by Edd Kimber, and I think it might be a new addition to my Christmas biscuits. I'm going to add a bit of Earl Grey next time!

Cherry, Coconut, and Tahini Cake 🍰

This is one of my favourite cakes to make in the summer, in fact, one of my favourite cakes full stop. It's light, moist (sorry), and has a sweet, nutty flavour thanks to the tahini. My favourite part, however, is the sweet cherry jewels dotted about the cake - so summery!

Recipe is from the always brilliant A Good Day to Bake by Benjamina Ebuehi, but I think it may be on her Substack too.
