Only the best for 💎🍷 S.L.V Cabernet Sauvignon – winner of the legendary 1976 Paris Tasting that put Napa Valley on the global map.

Fifty years on from the “Judgment of Paris”, this single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from proves that true icons are timeless.

Sourced from the winery’s first vineyard, planted in 1970, it captures the complex black fruit, spicy intensity and excellent structure that have become synonymous with the finest Napa Cabernets.

As winemaker Marcus Notaro puts it: “A lot changes in 50 years, both in the vineyards and in the winemaking, but the one thing that is constant is the place.”

“In a world of increasingly excellent Pinot Noir, Sonoma can more than hold its own” 🍷🌎 This we’re throwing the spotlight on three top wines from Sonoma included in a recent roundup by Ana Carolina Quintela for Decanter.

1. Hirsch Vineyards Maritime Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 2023 – From windswept, coastal vines, a limited release with “savory aromatics, cool fruit, and elegant, dusty tannins,” according to Jasmine Hirsch.

2. Hanzell Vineyards Heritage Pinot Noir, Moon Mountain District 2023 – An estate blend from select blocks, all rocky clay-loam soils. A true mountain Pinot with bright intensity, fine tannins and savory herb notes.

3. Cobb Wines Diane Cobb Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 2023 – A special field blend of clones from the original own-rooted nursery block planted by Diane Cobb in 1989. Ethereal yet intense.

“This is the earliest harvest I have ever experienced in my life” 🍇 vice president of winemaking reveals why this year has been one for the books at Lytton Springs in Sonoma County.

So what’s behind the early start? A warm March set the growing season in motion early, bringing bud break, véraison and, ultimately, harvest forward by roughly two weeks.

💡 The grapes haven’t necessarily had less time to develop on the vine (or “hangtime”). The whole growing season simply started earlier.

“We’re seeing great flavors out in the vineyard,” says assistant winemaker .

Three things you (probably) didn’t know about véraison 🍇

Most wine lovers know véraison as the moment grapes change color. But beneath the surface, one of the vineyard's most important transformations is underway.

1. Red grapes don’t simply “turn red” — They start making a new class of pigments in the skins: anthocyanins! Meanwhile the pulp of most red varieties stays colorless.

2. Softening can be a better indicator than color – You might see winegrowers giving the berries a gentle squeeze to determine ripeness, especially for white grapes where the color change is subtle.

3. It doesn’t happen all at once – Factors like sun exposure, vigor and microclimate can mean that véraison varies within the same vineyard, vine or even cluster.

Autonomous robots are being piloted in the vineyards of Certified B Corp Bonterra in Mendocino to help manage fungal disease using UV-C light.

💡 UV-C light targets fungal spores before they spread, while the fully electric robots help reduce carbon emissions – a smart combination for more sustainable winegrowing.

California comes to Cologne 🍷🇩🇪 The heart of Rhineland welcomed an outstanding lineup of in a special masterclass this summer, showcasing the diversity of the Golden State.

Capstone California educator (VINOPHILIUM Wine Academy) and former Best Sommelier of Germany led a deep dive into the depth and range of the world’s fourth largest wine region at the DHA - Deutsche Hotelakademie.

Their class of 28 aspiring wine professionals tasted their way along more than 300 miles of coastline, spanning flinty Santa Barbara Chardonnay and bold Lodi Zinfandel to elegant Sonoma Pinot Noir and, of course, iconic Napa Cabernet – to name a few!

Exclusive! 👀🍷 Take a first look inside the iconic Robert Mondavi Winery following its major 3-year transformation.

Known as the first California winery to treat wine like fine art, this legendary Rutherford estate was originally founded in 1966, and has helped put Napa on the world wine map.

Now, 60 years on, its doors have reopened to visitors after an epic restoration, revealing a reimagined icon. Here’s what we saw:

🍇 New Vineyard Room with sweeping views of To Kalon Vineyard and the Mayacamas Mountains
