Something we keep hearing from our community in Karnataka and Telangana - and it's one of the more encouraging shifts we've seen in Indian agriculture. 🍅
FPOs in these states are no longer just aggregating produce for the local mandi. Some of them are now trading directly with large food processors in neighbouring Maharashtra - using unified digital platforms that connect supply, logistics, and payment in one place. The local middleman, who used to be the only route to a buyer of that scale, is being bypassed entirely.
What made it possible wasn't just the technology. It was the combination of volume - because an FPO can offer what an individual farmer can't - and a digital platform that both sides trusted enough to transact on without a broker standing in between.
We've been hearing about this from our community for a while.
And every time we do, the same question comes back: if this works for maize and pulses between Karnataka and Maharashtra, why isn't it happening more widely? The technology exists. The FPOs exist. The buyers exist.
What's still missing - in your experience - is it trust, logistics, awareness, or something else? 👇
