Sommer wie diesen benötigen Erfrischung und kühle Kabis. Die Scheurebe macht einen großen Spass, der Riesling und der Sauvignon natürlich auch.

Summers like this one need refreshing wines like Kabinett. The Scheurebe, Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc match this weather perfectly.

Das waren unsere letzten Wochen. Umveredeln, Jungfelder giessen und nun noch die letzten Blätter wegnehmen. Wir sind bereit für die kommende Ernte.

Those were our last weeks. Regrafting, irrigating the young vines and deleafing the vineyards. We are ready for the coming harvest.

Ein kleines Update unserer gepflanzten Jungfelder auf dem Frauenberg. Es geht vorran. Die jungen Reben gedeihen, auch dank gelegentlicher Bewässerung, während dieses trockenen Sommers. Ich kann kaum auf die ersten Trauben warten.

A little update from our planted Frauenberg Riesling. It is looking very good. The dryness brings us to irrigate from time to time but the vines already look strong and healthy and I can not wait for the next years.

Zum ersten Mal haben wir eine kleine Fläche umveredelt. Ein Bacchus wird zu Riesling. Es ist ein extrem spannender Vorgang, den ich noch gar nicht vollkommen durchschaut habe. Es ist eine eigene Wissenschaft innerhalb des Weinbaus. In den kommenden Jahren gibt es dann hoffentlich wunderbaren Mölsheimer Riesling von diesem kleinen, aber steinreichen Weinberg.

For the first time we regraftet a vineyard. An 18-year old Bacchus is going to be Riesling. A highly exciting and stressful process which I do not completelely understand, yet. It is its own little science. Hopefully there will be a nice Mölsheim Riesling from this limestoney little vineyard in the coming years.

When the vines just wont get in by machin, you have to get the tools out and do it the oldschool way. My father is a limestone expert, who has been growing vines in Mölsheim for more than 40 years and knows all the tricks. His favor of easier soils is also totally understandable 😄.

So, I bought this piece of land.
A year back, when there was an opportunity to get vineyards in the Zellertal all eyes were on Herrgott but I looked at Frauenberg.
There it was, sitting right behind the border of Mölsheim and marking the entrance into the valley. The gate into the Zellertal or into the Rhine valley, depending on where you come from. I sensed the energy of this special place for a long time. Standing there you get the feeling of being at a cliffed coast. Wind, some old primal force and a view that is just stunning. Frauenberg means freedom.

Last week we planted Riesling and the moment the first vine was put into the soil, I felt this calming satisfaction that my perceptions did not disappoint me. In fact, you can hear the heavy limestone that is waiting under a few centimetres of top soil.

Time to throw some rocks around! It‘s beautiful in the valley at the moment. Perfect timing for some tractor work.

UPLIFTING NEWS! It seems like the ProWein is needing some heavy lifting after all this WineParis talk. I am at Halle 1 A120 and I will bring a range that feels like a Full Body Workout. On a sidenote, I really need to train a bit more, that lift looked as unstable as the future of the ProWein. No puns intended, of course.
