The next stop on our tour was Rathfinny Vineyard. The family-run winery is known for making wines with a distinctive expression of the terroir, authentically reflecting the characteristics of the South English chalk soils.

Ridgeview Wine Estate, on Fragbarrow Lane, in Ditchling Common is only about 15km from the south coast. They have been making wines on the estate for about twenty five years, and their philosophy is ‘minimal intervention’. They make 250,000 bottles per year.

If you are on holiday near Worthing on the south coast of England then 'The Corner House Pub' is well worth a visit. At typical and traditional english pub, with a lively atmosphere and good service! After a 'hard day' tasting English Sparkling wine our group went there for our evening meal and some relaxation.

In the pressing area we saw the taditional press which is still used, and at the end of our tour we enjoyed tasting the range of Wistons wines.

We had absolutely gorgeous weather for our visit to Roebuck Estate vineyard where the visitor area is a Tipi-like tent directly in amongst the vines.

After tasting the wines, the Vinissima group visited Nyetimbers State-of-the-Art Pressing House.

On the second day of our vineyard tour we visited Wiston. Incredibly, this estate has won the award for Best Vineyard in England not once, but four times in total, and of those, three years in sucession 2020, 2021, 2022.

Zoe Dearsley, Group Head Brand Ambassador at Nyetimber, explains to us just how revolutionary the idea was in 1991 to plant Chardonnay vines in southern england. Most people thought they wouldn't ripen properly, but they did....perfectly.
