Yesterday I taught Pineapple fried rice during my online cooking class. My guest, who also was a cooking teacher herself, said fried rice is often underrated because people think its easy. But actually you need to apply some techniques to make a perfect fried rice (how to make rice not too sticky or wet, or the vegetables not too mushy). My guest was happy to learn new techniques that I've learned from my mum 😊

This week I started doing VIRTUAL Vietnamese cooking class. I had my first guests from Japan, Israel, USA, Belgium and Thailand. We had so much fun cooking and chatting together virtually. VIETNAMESE PIZZA

Yesterday I made bánh tráng nướng, or you can called it Vietnamese pizza (sounds weird enough?). Well, it’s a street food snack from small town Đà Lạt now popular among young people in Vietnam. It’s a round rice paper, covered with various toppings, and grilled over charcoal. Some quail or chicken egg is beaten directly on top of the rice paper and spread evenly to help gluing the toppings. Toppings could be cheese, minced meat, dried shrimps, sliced sausage, peanuts, fried shallots, herbs, fish sauce… Be aware that you can get easily addicted to this crispy and savory snack.
My bánh tráng nướng had egg, bacon, sping onion, fried shallots, cheese and chilli sauce, ang was grilled on a pan, it’s good enough. Felt like I was on the walking street of Saigon eating it with my sister.

My name is Oanh (pronounce like "One"), born and raised in Vietnam. I am a food and lifestyle journalist, book author, columnist, founder, recipe developer and cooking teacher.

In Vietnamese language, the word "chị" means a miss, a sister. It's a sweet way to call a Vietnamese woman. Chị Oanh Saigon just simply means a sister named Oanh from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
I love cooking with my Mum's recipes. And I love wearing Áo Dài - Vietnamese traditional dress ☺️
