Some years ago at Soma Garden, we planted a collection of jackfruit seeds, each one carrying unknown genetic possibilities.
Most produced delicious fruit with familiar tropical jackfruit characteristics.
But one tree expressed something completely different.
A glowing golden jackfruit with unusually low latex, an exceptionally crunchy texture, and one of the most unique aromatic profiles we have ever encountered in Artocarpus heterophyllus.

The flavor profile is intensely floral, dominated by strong rose and lychee-like aromatics without the tart acidity normally associated with lychee itself. The texture leans toward the highly sought-after crunchy side rather than the soft spectrum, allowing the fruit’s volatile compounds and floral terpenes to become even more pronounced.
Traditional bubblegum and banana notes commonly found in jackfruit are remarkably subdued in this phenotype.
The result is something surreal:A jackfruit that almost doesn’t taste like the traditional jackfruit.
This rare seedling selection appears to express an unusual terpene and ester profile, creating a highly perfumed sensory experience unlike anything we have tasted before.
Our focus now is preservation and propagation.
We will begin carefully grafting and stabilizing this extraordinary selection, with only limited propagation planned in the future.
