nd non-alcoholic divisions. We go from barley fields through malt plants, breweries, distribution facilities, sales and marketing, and finally to our Drinkies retail stores.

1897 - Al Ahram Beverages Company was established 110 years ago by Belgium’s Crown Brewery Company.
1946: The Company entered into a technical assistance agreement with Heineken.
1963 - ABC was nationalized and was run by the government for almost 50 years
1997 - Acquired by an Egyptian entrepreneur during the era of privatization.
2002 - Acquisition of ABC by Heineken group
2006 - Full Heineken management through a team of multinational and local experts. ABC is always searching for employees with an entrepreneurial spirit,

Every grain tells a story 🌾

In East Oweinat, the 2026 barley harvest season brings to life the impact of the Sustainable Barley Cultivation Program, a long-standing partnership with the Agricultural Research Center and Sahara Egypt Group.

Through on-the-ground collaboration with our partners, this is where strategy translates into real outcomes, driven by smarter agricultural practices and a shared commitment to progress.
It reflects what an integrated model can achieve—connecting research, agriculture, and industry to deliver world-class, locally grown barley, strengthen resilient local value chains, and support a more sustainable future for agriculture in Egypt.

At the heart of it is “Hekayet Haba – A Grain Story” where every grain reflects a journey of growth, collaboration, and long-term impact.

A new chapter begins in the field 🌾

We’ve officially witnessed the opening of the 2026 barley harvest season in East Oweinat, a milestone that reflects years of collaboration through the Sustainable Barley Cultivation Program.

Built on a strong trilateral partnership between Al Ahram Beverages Company (ABC), the Agricultural Research Center under the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Sahara Egypt Group, the program brings together research, agriculture, and industry in one integrated model.

From developing new barley varieties and preserving seed quality to improving water efficiency and reducing carbon footprint, this is how sustainable agriculture is built from the ground up.

Today, ABC relies on 100% locally grown barley, with over 90% of raw materials sourced from Egypt, a reflection of our belief in the Egyptian market and our commitment to building resilient local value chains.

Across nearly 15,000 feddans, and with around 530,000 cubic meters of water saved annually, the program shows how impact can scale. 💧

And beyond the field, this system reaches regional markets, with around 40% of ABC’s malt production exported, showcasing the strength and competitiveness of Egyptian agriculture and industry.

As we celebrate this moment, we also launch “Hekayet Haba – A Grain Story”—a journey that starts with a single grain and grows into a more sustainable future.

Water is at the heart of stronger, more resilient communities 💧

Following World Water Day we’re highlighting how our water stewardship efforts are creating real impact across Egypt, from improving access to clean water to supporting more sustainable agriculture.

Through our initiatives, we’ve achieved over 205% water balancing, returning more than twice the water we use back to nature and communities.

Our impact in action:
💧 50 rainwater harvesting wells in Marsa Matrouh supporting 250+ people
💧 Clean water access for nearly 6,000 beneficiaries in Siwa
💧 530,000 m³ of water saved annually through sustainable barley cultivation
💧 7 household water connections in Beheira

Together with our partners, we’re working to support communities and protect water resources for the future.

Because while progress has been made, there is still more to be done.

Supporting communities and strengthening livelihoods through sustainable water solutions. 🤝

In celebration of World Water Day, Al Ahram Beverages Company (ABC) has signed a cooperation protocol with Al Orman Association to establish 50 rainwater harvesting wells in Marsa Matrouh, one of Egypt’s most water-scarce areas.

This initiative will help provide reliable access to clean water for 250+ direct beneficiaries, supporting families and strengthening community resilience.

Designed to last for up to 50 years, these wells represent a long-term investment in sustainable infrastructure that helps safeguard water resources for future generations.

The project is part of ABC’s broader Environmental Sustainability strategy, including the Healthy Watersheds pillar, through which we have achieved over 205% water balancing as of the end of 2025 — returning more than twice the water we use back to nature and communities.

Through partnerships like this, we continue to support Egypt’s water sustainability priorities and Egypt Vision 2030, while contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Because protecting water today helps build stronger communities for tomorrow. 💧
