Two WWTP Projects Successfully Completed in Egypt: Hamoly (Faiyum) and Komesyon (Kafr El Sheikh)

WABAG has successfully completed two Wastewater Treatment Plants in Egypt for national NOPWASD: The Komesyon WWTP in Kafr El Sheikh and the Hamoly WWTP in Faiyum. Both projects form part of Egyptโ€™s national Haya Karima Programme, which aims to improve rural infrastructure and supports the implementation of the countryโ€™s Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 6 โ€“ Clean Water and Sanitation.

Hamoly WWTP, Faiyum: Located in the Faiyum Oasis, around 100 km southwest of Cairo, the Hamoly WWTP was handed over to NOPWASD on 3 November 2025. The plant has a capacity of 10,000 mยณ/day (expandable to 15,000 mยณ/day) and includes mechanical and biological treatment (extended aeration), disinfection and comprehensive sludge treatment.

Komesyon WWTP, Kafr El Sheikh: The new municipal WWTP in Kafr El Sheikh โ€“ around 134 km north of Cairo โ€“ was handed over to our client NOPWASD on 1 October 2025. The facility provides mechanical and biological treatment with extended aeration, disinfection and sludge treatment, with a capacity of 5,000 mยณ/day (expandable to 7,500 mยณ/day). By ensuring safe discharge of treated effluent, the plant contributes to protecting the Nile and supporting environmental and socio-economic development in the region.

Together, these two facilities strengthen wastewater infrastructure in Egyptโ€™s rural regions and contribute to improved water quality, public health and sustainable development along the Nile.

A big thank-you to our dedicated project teams for their commitment and successful delivery of both projects.

Following the handover, the Fayoum Water Company held a small celebration and recognized our Project Manager for his outstanding commitment.

Where Technology Meets Diplomacy: A Special Day at Madinaty
On 21 October 2025, we had the honor of welcoming a high-level delegation to our MADINATY wastewater treatment and water reuse plant near Cairo, which was built and is operated by WABAG:
โ€ข H.E. Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy (India)
โ€ข H.E. Ambassador Georg Postinger (Austria)
โ€ข Georg Krenn, Austrian Commercial Counsellor & Head of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Cairo
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our work in Egypt. The delegation expressed great interest in the plantโ€™s operations as well as in our solutions for wastewater treatment and water reuse.
WABAG has been active in Egypt for more than 30 years and has successfully implemented over 40 projects during this time. The exchange once again highlighted the importance of sustainable water solutions and the strong cooperation between Egypt, India, and Austria.

World Water Day 2025: Save Our Glaciers! ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒ

Glaciers are the water reservoirs of our planet. As glaciers melt, they release water that feeds rivers and provides drinking water for millions of people. But they are melting faster than ever. Climate change threatens not only these natural water sources but also global water security.

How we make a difference:
- Treating and recycling water to keep it in the natural cycle.
- Generating energy from sewage sludge and biogas to reduce COโ‚‚ emissions.
- Using resource-efficient technologies to protect our environment.

Clean water is not a given โ€“ itโ€™s a responsibility. Letโ€™s act now before itโ€™s too late!

WABAG to Build a Sustainable Wastewater Treatment Plant for NOOR Smart City in Egypt!
We are proud to support NOOR City, an innovative and sustainable urban development near Cairoโ€™s New Administrative Capital. Designed to set new benchmarks for smart cities, NOOR will integrate cutting-edge technologies and eco-friendly practices to create a greener future.

As part of this project, WABAG will deliver an advanced three-stage wastewater treatment plant, enabling sustainable water reuse for irrigation through a dedicated network. This builds on our success in Madinaty, another emerging satellite city near Cairo, where we treat and recycle 80,000 mยณ/d of water for irrigating green spaces.

We thank our customer for their trust in WABAG, enabling us to take another step toward shaping sustainable cities and a resilient future!

WABAG Expands into Zambia with a Landmark Sanitation Project!

We are proud to announce our entry into the Zambian market with a major contract from Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC). As part of this milestone, WABAG will design, build, and operate two of Zambiaโ€™s largest and most advanced wastewater treatment plants in the recent decade in Ngwerere and Chunga, with a total capacity of 73,000 mยณ/day.

These state-of-the-art facilities will incorporate advanced wastewater treatment and sustainable sludge management. By utilizing the produced biogas and solar power, the plants will ensure energy self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability. Financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and German KfW, this transformative project represents a significant contribution to the Zambian governmentโ€™s mission to enhance water and sanitation infrastructure, improving public health and supporting long-term economic growth. This marks another step in our commitment to delivering sustainable water solutions across Africa.

A Dinner in Madinaty. On November 12, 2024, we had the unique opportunity to host a special afternoon and dinner in the "garden" of the Madinaty Wastewater Treatment and Water Reuse Plant. Thanks to the modern design and exceptional cleanliness of the facility, we were able to enjoy this event right next to one of the secondary clarifiers โ€“ a true testament to the plant's high operational standards and environmental excellence. An efficient odor treatment system ensures that the surroundings remains fresh and pleasant.

Our valued customers, partners, and dedicated employees โ€“ who have ensured the plantโ€™s smooth and efficient operation since 2018 โ€“ joined us for this memorable occasion. Their efforts ensure that the highly purified water continues to sustain the greenery of the new satellite city, keeping it both clean and vibrant.

WABAG designed and constructed the Madinaty WWTP Phases I & II and has been successfully operating the plants since their commissioning.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and made this evening a resounding success and truly memorable.
