The first cool night last night starts the slow down in the summer heat.
Its not over (38c the end of next week) but nights get cooler from now on.
So now we are entering 'second spring'.
Just as the heat drops all the plants start to grow again.
Hence my Tomatoe cuttings I've took in early August and kept out of the worst of the heat and scorching sun are being planted out now.
We can have upto 3 months of good growing weather ahead so well worth the effort.

With the growth returning its another reason why we dont rush and start pruning Ornamental plants .Its always best to wait or you can risk the plant dieing.
Untill growth slows its best just to wait.

Crumbs.
More Cucumbers.
Normally they finish very quickly in the season here as Botritus takes them.
This years been dry and hot so no real problem with molds.
Ive never had Cucumbers, Melons and Corggettes in August before.
We have so many we are making Cucumber water.
Great for keeping hydrated in these hot summer months.

So as all the onions are harvested and hung for use in the winter months.
I decided to pickle the small ones.
So half red wine vinagre and half salt water solution makes a lovely crunchy onion.
I will look forward to them in a few weeks😋

¡What the hell is that God awful noise!!!!
I hear you ask.
Well that's the call of the Ash Cicada (Cicada orni), commonly known in Spanish as a Cigarra or Chicharra..
And yes, it can be a tad noisey.
Ive measured their call at 130 db.

That's way over my biggest chainsaw at full revs........not bad for a little insect.
Like most species in this world its the Male that makes all the noise😅.

As a boy i always loved the movies where the insects in the background would 'sing' at night etc.
One reason I started to travell so young.
That and I dont do cold😅.

I remember once, upon arriving at a clients Villa his clients were screaming and shouting loudly.
I walked around the corner to find the whole family screaming at the Pine trees.
Daddy was even spraying down the trees with the hose(which I took off him instantly ,coiled and put in my van,due to water restrictions at the time)
Stop that bloody row he screamed in my face........
I basically told him I can't eradicate the whole insect population of Javea just because he didnt like a little bit of noise....Spain is the loudest country in the EU for a good reason.(you get used to it in the end,the first decade is the worst.🤣)
i thought he was going to hit me🤣
He was so angry.....bright red too
Even complained to the owners😅
But no refund because of a little Cicadas action matey....🤣
Best get used to it.
Its not for long.
4 to 5 weeks .
So just enjoy it while it's happens..

The Jungla outside seems to like this tropical weather.
The Banana especially.
The Tumeric loves it too.
I had several pots so hoping for a good crop.
I didnt eat any of last years crop as was keeping it for planting.

Heres a great shot of a Leopard moth (Zeuzera pyrina)sent in from a client.
Unfortunatly It is considered a pest because its larvae bore into the wood of various fruit and ornamental trees, such as apple, pear, and olive trees.
It looks fantastic but indeed causes a lot of damage.

Bet you have a Pheromone trap for it Daz though.....
Of coarse i have😅.
There's a Pheromone trap for every kind of problematic insect.
I haven't set any for these beauties so far though.

Busy morning.
As I was up at 6 because it was hot in the pressure cooker(my bed)

So I had lots of time to do stuff.
So i harvested the second Chilli pepper/sweet peppers harvest.

Preserved the chilli's in a brine, vinagre mixture

Cleaned and Hung the dry onions.

Made Smudge sticks out some of the Sage plants for use as a natural insect repellant.

I have lots of different types of chillis this year.
They are the only things that can take the heat.
Heat and high wind i should say.
If my cucumbers was open to the wind then I wouldn't have any........
Still got lots of onions to pull up too.😋
I see lots of growers this year haven't even bothered growing veg..
I only had Tomatoes in pots and under shade cloth.
But still to hot for full flowering and a good harvest.
Let's see if September is any better.
We call September, 'Second Spring'.
So we can only see.
Still August to come......
Think we will all be living under ground by then....😅

But it still has to be done.
I love these white salad onions.
So tasty yet not strong.
