regions and regionalism

As is well known, our country, Ethiopia, is a country with many regions and ethnic groups.
What are the sources of regionalization and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
During the TPLF regime, Ethiopia was divided into regions. When they divided it into regions, they divided it with the goal of"divide and rule or buy" to suit their administration or purchasing system and pretended to think for this country. Therefore, division into regions is effective if the regions live together with respect for each other's culture and traditions.
