We weren’t expecting to find a restaurant like this in Rijeka Crnojevića and that’s exactly why we love traveling. 🇲🇪

Tucked where the Crnojević River meets Lake Skadar, Casarogna feels discovered rather than found.

Chef and owner Željko Vukićević, with experience at the Ritz-Carlton and leading Croatian kitchens, creates seasonal dishes rooted in the region’s lakes, rivers, sea and local producers. Even the name comes from kasaronja, the water chestnut found in Lake Skadar.

Add thoughtful w**e pairings, beautiful presentation and an unforgettable setting, and you get a completely different side of Montenegro’s food scene.

This is the Montenegro we came looking for, and proof that fine dining is here.

The best sunsets in Montenegro aren’t always by the water. 🌅

We learned something quickly in Montenegro: the mountains can hide the sun earlier than you expect. So if you want to catch that golden light, go higher.

🚠 FORZA K*K
Take the Kotor–Lovćen Cable Car from Kotor. The ride takes about 11 minutes, and an adult return ticket is currently €25. Forza K*k is right at the upper station. Go about 45–60 minutes before sunset so you can settle in and watch the light change.

🌄 MONTE 1350
Same cable car, different experience. Get off at the top and walk about 5 minutes to Monte 1350, sitting at 1,350m with incredible views over the bay and Adriatic. This was one of our favorite sunset spots.

🍷 STORIA DI PIETRA
Driving the famous Kotor serpentine? Make this your sunset stop. Located in Mirac, this restaurant and w**ery sits high above the bay. Add dinner and a w**e pairing and you’ve got a pretty unforgettable evening.

🍸 HORIZONT BAR
Another great stop along the serpentine if you want to grab a drink and enjoy the view without making it a full dinner.

🌊 VIRTU BEACH, DOBROTA
For a completely different vibe, watch sunset by the water. Beach, drinks, music and the mountains surrounding the Bay of Kotor.

🐟 KONOBA PORTUN, DOBROTA
One of our favorite spots for a sunset dinner. Fresh seafood, a beautiful waterfront setting and the bay changing colors around you.

🤍 SVETI STEFAN BEACH
For that classic Montenegro postcard moment, head to the beach with a view of the iconic island as the light fades.

Some places leave you speechless. Lake Skadar was one of them.

It wasn’t just the views. It was the stillness.

The reflections that looked too perfect to be real. The boats resting quietly along the shore. The endless water lilies. The birds overhead. The feeling that time had slowed down, even if just for a little while.

It’s the kind of place that reminds you not every destination needs a long checklist. Sometimes the best thing you can do is sit back, take it all in, and let nature do the talking.

If you find yourself in Montenegro, don’t rush through Lake Skadar. Slow down. Stay a little longer. You might leave with more than just beautiful photos.
