New arrivals Kolonia 52 are in stocks!

North of Lake Balaton, on the volcanic slopes of Szent György-hegy, Annamária Török and Atilla Francisti produc low-intervention wines under the name Kolónia 52.

Their first official vintage was in 2021, but they bring solid experience from top Austrian producers such as Gut Oggau, Heinrich, and Michael Gindl. They farm small organic and biodynamic parcels on the hill’s northern side, where basalt soils provide freshness and minerality.

Fermentation is spontaneous, no additives are used, and the focus is on native varieties like Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Kékfrankos, with some grapes sourced from like-minded growers.

Optimum Acidum Pét Nat 2024
Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, directly pressed and fermented in large barrels. Bottled the following March. Slow fermentation creates smooth, fine, long-lasting bubbles.
Controlled Chaos 2024
Now a rosé-style cuvée made entirely from Pinot varieties. Whole-bunch Pinot Noir soaked in direct-press Pinot Gris juice, co-fermented for 10 days, then aged 9 months in 600 L barrels and a 500 L amphora. Bottled with no additions.

Lime 2024
A new Riesling–Furmint cuvée, directly pressed and aged on lees in 500–600 L barrels and a 300 L amphora. From volcanic basalt soils, showing minerality, floral notes, and fresh acidity.

Cabernet Franc 2023
Hand-destemmed grapes fermented in open fermenters with mostly intact berries. After 10 days maceration, gently pressed and aged 11 months in 400–500 L oak barrels. Bottled without additions. Classic Cabernet Franc with smooth fruit and gentle spice.

A visit to Naboso, in the heart of the Little Carpathian wine region at Svätý Jur – one of our absolute favorite places to be.

This time, we had the chance to explore both of their cellars and the newly developed terraced vineyards that border the Carpathian forest. A truly special experience.

Andrej and Nadja continue to make meaningful strides with their winemaking. Every bottle they produce brings us joy – it’s always a delight to uncork one and discover the character and beauty captured inside.

New releases are just around the corner – keep an eye out in the coming days!

Annamária & Atila | Kolónia 52 | Szent György-hegy, Hungary

North of Lake Balaton, on the volcanic slopes of Szent György-hegy, Annamária Török and Atilla Francisti produce honest, wines under the name Kolonia 52.

Exciting things are happening on this hill! While Kolonia 52′s first official vintage (2021) has just been released, Annamária and Atilla are far from newcomers. They’ve worked with renowned Austrian producers like Gut Oggau, Heinrich, and Michael Gindl, gaining valuable experience along the way.

Their vineyards are a patchwork of small plots on the northern side of Szent György-hegy hilly, sometimes steep, and a bit maze-like. The work is of course done organically and biodynamically. The soil is mostly basalt, which gives nice acidity and minerality to the wines.

In the cellar, the wines ferment under their own power, and no additives are used at all. They work with native Hungarian varieties like Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), In addition to their own cultivations, they also buy grapes from growers they know and who work with the same cultivation philosophy.

About André
Created in 1961 by crossing Blaufränkisch × Saint Laurent at ŠSV Velké Pavlovice, André was named after a German educator and became popular in Czechia and Slovakia, officially recognized in 1980.

Tasting Notes
A vibrant, fruit-forward red with a light ruby hue. Aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, and strawberries lead to a juicy, refreshing palate with well-integrated acidity. Light to medium-bodied, it offers a modern, easy-drinking style packed with fresh red fruit.

Markus Altenburger rot 2021 Helden | Jois | Burgenland

Tuotennummero 900728

The name Helden (German for heroes) refers to the vintage 2014 when, after an intense hailstorm in August, only a few grapes survived without a damage – real heroes. Given the miniscule quantity, we fermented the grapes from two very different terroirs – half schist, half limestone – together back then. It was a first time using whole-bunch fermentation, an approach we’ve stuck with since.

100% Bläufrankisch

Vineyard: blend of two distinct terroirs. Hackelsberg is pure dry schist soil, Bergschmallister is white limestone. Dry-farmed, certified organic. Leithaberg DAC

Making of: Grapes are hand harvested and macerated as whole bunches for 3 weeks. Spontaneously fermented in wooden fermenter. Aged for 14 months in used 500l, 600l and 700l oak barrel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, with 10 mg of added sulfites.

Personality: opposites definitely attract in this lovely balanced red. Schist brings out the rich dark fruit of Blaufrankisch while limestone gives the wine length and softness. Focused and super-interesting
