Reading this brought back so many memories, Momo Lai ❤️
Exactly this same week last year, we were going around Labasa Town looking for a small spot where we could start operating. We had the dream, the passion and the willingness to work hard, but all we really needed was someone to give us an opportunity and believe in us.
For the first three days, we operated from the train line while trying to figure everything out. Then we were reminded by the Labasa Town Council that we couldn’t continue without the proper approval from FSC. That same afternoon, I called my uncle, Momo Lai, and asked if we could operate in front of their kitchen, Matata Kitchen. Without hesitation, he said YES. ❤️
Not only did Momo Lai and Nei Talei give us the space, but they even left the kitchen open for us until late hours so we could prepare our food inside and safely keep our things there after we finished for the day. That kindness and trust is something I will always be grateful for. ❤️🙏🏽
A few days later, the owner of the building, Mr. Goundar, was also kind enough to give us an opportunity to rent the space at the back of the building and allow us to operate from the building’s driveway. Another door opened when we needed it most.
And today, it’s been exactly one year since we started operating our little food business here in Labasa. 🥹❤️
Looking back, we realise it was never just about finding a place to sell food. It was about the people who opened their doors, gave us a chance, believed in us and helped us get started.
To Momo Lai, Nei Talei, Mr. Goundar and everyone who supported us from those early days — Vinaka vakalevu from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️
Most importantly, we give all the glory and thanks to God for every opportunity, every blessing, every challenge that made us stronger, and every customer who has supported Tui’s Grill along the way.
One year down, and we’re still hustling. 🙏🏽❤️
