Today, we acknowledge and appreciate all PALM Scheme workers who have left their homes and families behind to work hard in Australia. Their dedication, resilience, and sacrifice help support their loved ones back home while contributing to Australian industries and communities.

Many workers from Fiji and other Pacific nations travel thousands of kilometres to create better opportunities for their families. Before departing Fiji, workers undertake pre-departure training where they learn about living and working in Australia, workplace rights and responsibilities, financial management, health and wellbeing, accommodation, and how to access support services while overseas.

PALM Scheme workers are generally employed under the Subclass 403 Temporary Work (International Relations) Visa – PALM stream. Workers must comply with Australian laws, work for their approved employer, maintain valid visa conditions, and follow the terms of their employment arrangement. Long-term PALM placements can allow workers to remain in Australia for up to four years, depending on their employment arrangements.

The wellbeing of workers remains a priority. PALM Scheme workers have the same workplace rights and protections as Australian workers and can access support if they need assistance. Workers can contact the PALM Scheme Support Service on 1800 515 131. While the service is monitored from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm AEST, urgent and critical incidents can be reported at any time.

To all PALM Scheme workers: thank you for your hard work, commitment, and the sacrifices you make every day for your families and communities. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.

One day at a time

Today I decided to visit Planet Fitness for a change of environment and to keep pushing myself toward my fitness goals. Being in a different gym gave me fresh motivation and reminded me that growth comes from consistency, discipline, and showing up even on the days when it's easier to stay comfortable. I'm also working on becoming better at creating and posting content, learning something new each day and trying to share my journey in a more meaningful way. Above all, I'm grateful to God for the strength, health, and opportunities He continues to provide. Every workout, every lesson, and every small step forward is a blessing, and I'm thankful for the chance to keep improving both physically and personally.

Cooking professionally takes a lot of skill: time management, teamwork, pressure handling, hygiene standards, creativity, customer service, and technical knowledge. Many chefs work long hours while constantly learning new techniques, cuisines, and business skills. That is education too just in a different form than university.

The hospitality industry can also open doors into:
restaurant management
business ownership
content creation and food reviewing
catering
luxury venues and hotels
Working in kitchens, especially under pressure, builds resilience that many people never develop.

Iam proud to earn honestly . If anything, becoming a skilled chef shows commitment and work ethic.
