*Rugby Career
I never played rugby but one day Langi Peters first introduced me to play rugby in a trials for the Tailevu Colts (U21). I still don’t know anything about rugby. But after some strong performance, my name was the first to called out. Then after all we started drinking, socializing etc ... Some things I learned along the way when you are young rugby players. His playing career ranged from different local clubs in Tailevu from Waikete Rugby Club to Vunivaivai to Kuku to Nadali Rugby Club then to Vunimono Rugby Club. He also played for Tailevu that brought the prestige Farebrother Sullivan Trophy from Lautoka. In 2005 he went on to play for the Fiji Warriors Team.
*Playing Rugby Overseas
We were supposed to play for Upper Hut Rugby Club in Wellington but for whatever reason we ended up playing for Wairarapa Carterton from year 2006-2008 in NZ. When we were there, we were doing all kinds of jobs together with rugby, then one day I got a one month contract to work at one of my teammates Family Dairy Farm which carving 370 cows and gives birth in one day. One of the biggest family dairy farm in the area and it’s all run and operated by the family only. No outside labour. After working at this Family Dairy Farm, I then realised that my real passion was in Farming. I could have gone to places with rugby but I found a place in farming or farming found a way in me. Then I returned back to Fiji.
*The Beauty of Rugby
Understand the Fijian culture and speak the language. People wanted to smack you etc but after all we build friendships and relationships that can lasts forever ...
*Farming
Taught you How to live life. Strong mind and build your body. Waking up every morning at 3am to milk cows then 2pm for another one then rugby training in the afternoon. Dairy farm teaches you to work hard. Early on when I was young I Have to find to get out so I could run away from milking cows with my dad. It was really tough. You can live and earned income off the farm.
*Highlights
Planting Coral under the sea at Leleuvia Island. Did this for 10yrs now.
*Difficult Moment
I losts my younger brother Ronald Compain at the age of 20. He got into a car accident. It was a tough moment. Sometimes it’s tough to accept that he was really gone and it could have happened to me or anyone. So be thankful. Losing my father my mentor was even harder for me. He went all of a sudden too.
