The timing of this year's edition is particularly significant for the international w**e and spirits industry.
After nearly two decades of negotiations, the European Union and India concluded negotiations on a landmark Free Trade Agreement in January 2026, marking a new chapter in their trading relationship.
For European w**e and spirits producers, this represents more than a reduction in tariffs. It signals the potential for greater access to one of the world's most promising consumer markets.
Under the proposed agreement, India's import duties, currently reaching 150%, would gradually fall to as low as 20–30% for qualifying European w**es and 40% for spirits, once the agreement enters into force.
But India is not a new market for European w**es and spirits.
Ch*****ne already has a place in luxury hospitality and celebrations. European w**es and spirits are established in premium restaurants, corporate gifting and among India's growing affluent consumer base.
What the agreement could change is the scale at which this existing demand can develop.
For producers looking towards India, positioning, building relationships and understanding the market today could make a significant difference in the years ahead.
ProWine Mumbai 2026, taking place on 18–19 November, comes at an important moment for the industry.
And Cellar 33 will be there, bringing together international producers and key players in the Indian market.
