There are bottles you read about, and then there are bottles that somehow find their way into your orbit.

This one—Vin de Constance 1789—belongs firmly in the second category.

It appeared, as these things sometimes do, through a friend with a sharp eye and a better cellar. Thank you, Arnaud Saiag, for the glimpse into something that feels less like w**e and more like a surviving document. Not just of a vintage, but of a moment in time.
1789. The year does some of the storytelling on its own.

We’ll be sitting down for lunch soon, and I suspect the real story will be everything that doesn’t show up in the photograph—the provenance, the journey, the improbable survival. The kind of details that remind you w**e is, at its best, a long conversation across centuries.
