It’s not every week you sit at what seems a 100-metre-long table beside legends of wine—and realise the best part isn’t the wine. It’s the people.
Hong Kong, Day 1. The room pulses. At the Great Wines of the World 2025 tasting, alongside our valued partners Northeast Wine & Spirits in Hong Kong I find myself in that rare place where the entire wine world seems to lean in at once: producers, distributors, aficionados, curious newcomers.
The the hall is full. The magic of isn’t in the lights or the labels (though one could be dazzled), but in the coming-together: old friends, new voices, and the quiet thrill of someone in the next seat discovering something sublime.
And at dinner—there it is: a table that seems 100 metres long. I sit in the middle and realise: this isn’t a dinner. It’s a convergence. Neighbours generous with stories and pourings. A toast with labels like , , . But more than that: people, for a moment, choosing connection over nuance.
Then the wines—oh, the wines. Snippets of brilliance, each glass a hand-written page in the story of vintage, place, ambition. And the announcement: the number one wine. Vintage 2022 takes the crown. A deserved spotlight, a moment of celebration.
Finally: humility. I meet the stalwarts of history— , whose passion for is undimmed. I’m reminded how humbling it is to represent the most wine of at . Then a warm reunion with Gwendeline .
This wasn’t just about wine. It was about witnessing the human side of this extraordinary world we share.
