Benoît Trocard embarked on a new adventure in 2010: to produce a white w**e on the right bank of Saint-Emilion. Originally, Rive Droite was the best terroir to produce white w**es, which is why Trocard chose to make the bet of growing a white grape variety.
"I had long dreamed of working with this variety – and because I didn't want to step on the toes of the whites of Bordeaux who have already firmly established their reputation, notably the whites of Graves and Pessac-Léognan, made from Sauvignon and Semillon grapes I decided to pursue Chardonnay.
In 2010, he therefore decided to plant a little less than one hectare of Chardonnay on a beautiful south-facing clay and limestone hillside. This Chardonnay does not try to replicate the Burgundian style and mineral profile, but rather opts for a floral character with very beautiful citrus notes. Today, Clos Dubreuil only produces about 2000 bottles a year, with quality being the top priority for every vintage.

Tasting notes🍍: Strong yellow, intense, luminous around the edges. Spicy bouquet with notes of resin and pine trees. Typical expression of Chardonnay grape varietal. The property’s old name is “Domaine de Francs” and combines an amazing mix of ancient archeological remains, such as Roman columns and wells, Carolingian vault, medieval pyramid, and a chapel blessed by Pope Leo XIII himself. Recently it has become even more obvious to several professionals from Japan (Chefs and Sommeliers) that there was something truly special about COUTET: the unique mellow character of the w**e slowly releases umami flavors!
