Les Mirabelles is a small family-run business based in South West France offering holiday rentals, pop-up feast events and private catering.

We are Sam and Heather Lusardi, we live in the beautiful commune of Caylus in the Tarn et Garonne with our two dogs, Olive and Elwood.

I’ve just spent a wonderful long weekend in the UK celebrating the wedding of a fabulous friend, catching up with the best people, and hanging out with my fairy godchildren.

It was so much fun, and honestly friends and family are the biggest thing we miss, and the biggest sacrifice we made when we moved here was not getting to see them more often, but boy am I glad to be home.

I’m not built for the city anymore. It’s these hills and big blue skies that ground me; give me oxygen and energy, and such a sense of peace.

I can’t believe how lucky we are to call this place home 💙💙💙

Last week we cooked for a lovely family who were holidaying in a gorgeous old house in the countryside.

We catered for 11 adults and 7 children over three nights. We prepared healthy but accessible meals for the children including homemade oven baked free range chicken tenders with peas and potato wedges, « hidden vegetable » meatballs and spaghetti with tomato sauce and crudités. For puddings we made a build your own ice cream sundae station and gooey warm chocolate brownies with homemade vanilla ice cream.

For the adults we cooked delicious seasonal and locally sourced meals including a simple French supper of tender lemon and garlic roast chicken with aioli, tomato shallot salad, crispy potatoes, and courgette, pea and ricotta salad, followed by crème brûlée with shortbread; or our Mediterranean sharing supper with pomegranate chicken, saffron pilaf, shirazi salad, grilled aubergines with tamarind and pickled chillies and roasted carrots with labneh and harissa butter. All followed by fig leaf cake with figs roasted in spiced rum, mascarpone cream and fig leaf oil.

🇬🇧Some simple diners just for the two of us. Gaelic and lemon chicken skewers with Greek salad, tzatziki and flatbreads; and chicken schnitzel Holstein with fried egg, anchovies and capers, and the most beautiful Riesling.

Plus, the only things that survived the heat and drought in our potager this year were the more exotic plans like the chillies and this beautiful tomatillo.

🇫🇷 Des dîners simples juste pour nous deux : brochettes de poulet ail et citron avec salade grecque et tzatziki; et schnitzel au poulet façon Holstein, avec œuf poêlé, anchois et câpres et le plus beau de rieslings.

Les seules choses qui ont survécues la sécheresse et la chaleur cette été dans notre potager sont les plantes exotiques - les piments, et les tomatillos.

What a treat to be able to cook this beautiful piece of beef for one of our lovely guests’ birthday!

We served a delicate, chilled vichyssoise soup to start, reverse seared T-bone steak, with crispy potatoes, tomato and basil salad, green beans with pickled shallots, and béarnaise sauce for the main event, then this glossy little baby for pudding - a mirabelle & rene claude tart with fig leaf frangipane, served with olive oil ice cream.

Before we sat down, we shared a complimentary bottle of Canto Perlic Perle Celeste and then our guests enjoyed a big bold ProduttoriDelBarbaresco to compliment the steak.

🇬🇧 Recipe testing for Friday - guinea fowl with olives and oregano, shoestring fries, and courgette, pea and ricotta salad.

The first mirabelle harvest.

Making the most of the fruit from our orchard - mirabelle plum & cardamom shrub, and fig chutney.

Grilled peaches, halloumi & tomato salad, romesco sauce with roasted peppers & grilled leeks.

🇫🇷 Test de recettes pour vendredi : pintade aux olives et à l’origan, frites allumettes, et salade de courgettes, petits pois et ricotta.

La première récolte de mirabelles.

Valorisation des fruits de notre verger : shrub à la mirabelle et à la cardamome, et chutney de figues.

Salade de pêches grillées, halloumi et tomates. Sauce romesco aux poivrons rôtis et poireaux grillés.

🇬🇧 I’m so excited about my latest purchase!
Sone peopled want Gucci handbags, I just want four varieties of paprika…

Don’t come for me, Spain, but I’m 100% team Hungarian paprika 🇭🇺

Not only is it delicious but it also comes in 8 different varieties, each with its own distinct flavour and uses.

I’ve only got the most common four: sweet, smoked, hot, and hot smoked.

Certaines personnes rêvent de sacs à main Gucci, moi je veux juste quatre variétés de paprika…

Ne m’en veux pas, Espagne, mais je suis à 100 % fan du paprika hongrois 🇭🇺

Non seulement il est délicieux, mais il existe en 8 variétés différentes, chacune avec sa saveur et ses utilisations propres.

Je n’ai que les quatre plus courantes : doux, fumé, piquant et fumé piquant.

Je suis ravie de vous partager le menu de notre soirée festin le 7 août.

On va se régaler avec une tarte tatin aux tomates de la ferme de verdurette, les pintades de Le Maraudeur 🐓🇫🇷 avec l’origan de notre jardin et les olives de Domaine Rigaud et bien d’autres délicieux produits de saison issus de notre magnifique région.

Nous sommes complets pour ce soir-là, mais il en reste quelques places pour le 11 septembre.

Si vous avez déjà réservé pour le 7 août on a hâte de vous accueillir.
