As much as anyone, I hate to be wrong, but concerning this harvest, I can live with it.
About a month ago, during a vineyard walk with a friend, I was extremely worried by what I was looking at: tiny berries, looking a little tired from fighting the drought, lagging in ripening, and with very little sign of vΓ©raison to be seen.
Yet things took a turn for the best, although we didnβt get any rain. Temperatures dropped a little and, quite magically, everything is fine now. The Chardonnay grapes are delicious. Strolling through the rows and eating full clusters is a joy. This harvest is proof that Ch*****ne is indeed a magical place.
This harvest, however, is not without challenges. High potential ABV will be testing us. In the cellar, high pH will require extreme care. But today, I have no doubt about two things: this is a harvest to remember, and it will be a vintage.
With our eyes on the thermometer and nonstop research in the cellar for the past decade, weβre ready. Blessed with the trust of RΓ©mi and Olivier, weβll make the best of this year.
