Ovum Wines Quiet w**es of place. Located in Willamette Valley, O**m is dedicated to solely producing white w**es from the Pacific Northwest. Neutral barrels.

Native ferments. Extended lees aging. We believe that white w**e varieties of the Pacific Northwest, particularly Riesling, hold the same promise of quality and character as the red w**es we've come to love.

We’ve been waiting a long time to open these w**es.

Some of that is literally just because w**e takes forever.

We started Clos Scorpio in 2017 and kept checking it. It just didn’t feel ready. Time costs a lot when you’re a small w**ery, but we still didn’t want to rush it.

Same sort of thing with Base Line. We’ve been hanging onto bottles from the library and opening them every so often to see where they’re at.

That’s really what changed with the club.

We want to send w**es when we think they’re actually good to drink, not just because they’re the newest thing sitting in the cellar.

So yeah. Many years later, here we are.

A lot of w**emaking is just waiting to see if you were right.

Around 2013, we started putting bottles away because we wanted to know what happened to them with time.

John had been around old library w**es and loved the idea that you could look backward to understand where the w**es were going.

So we started doing the same.

Mostly with Riesling, because that’s the grape we were most curious about.

Now we’re opening some of those bottles years later and finally getting the answer.

2016 Base Line is one of them. And we held enough back to put one bottle into every Fall W**e Club shipment this year.

John’s called this a fairy tale vintage more than once now.

Everything felt early. But somehow the fruit still got the time it needed.

We had an advanced bloom back in May, then a long dry stretch through summer. A bit of rain in early September gave the vines exactly what they needed to keep going, and since then, harvest has been surprisingly spread out.

Plenty of breathing room between picks, sugars staying where we want them, and some really clean fruit coming in.

Still plenty of harvest left, obviously. But 2026 is looking pretty damn good.

The 2017 Sinnerman is a good example of why you can’t make the same w**e every year, even if you wanted to.

We were looking at gorgeous fruit at Ge**er Vineyard and decided to give it another week on the vine. Then a wildfire broke out in southern Oregon and sent hot winds through the vineyard.

Not smoky winds, thankfully. But hot enough to dehydrate the grapes.

So we ended up with something we wouldn’t have planned for. Really ripe, powerful Gewürztraminer with this almost ridiculous amount of acidity still hanging around.

We’ve held onto this one for years, and now it’s going into the 12-bottle Fall W**e Club.

This bottle has been hanging around our cellar for nearly 10 years. Figured it was time to open one.

We made Base Line from Bradley Vineyard in Elkton, from own-rooted Riesling vines planted back in 1983. Then we put some away.

Not because we had a particularly clever plan for it. We just wanted to keep enough around to find out what happened when nobody drank it for a while.

There are only 180 bottles of the 2016 Base Line left, and we’re putting some of them into the Fall W**e Club.

This bottle has had nearly 10 years to do its thing, and it’s the sort of w**e that reminds us why we keep older bottles tucked away in the first place.

Every club member gets one bottle of 2016 Base Line. We only have 180. You can probably see where this is going.

We didn’t sit down and decide 180 sounded like a nice number for the W**e Club.

That’s just how many bottles of this w**e are left.

It came from own-rooted Riesling vines planted in 1983 at Bradley Vineyard in Elkton, and we’ve been holding it back for years because we wanted to see what happened with time.

Now it’s going into the Fall shipment, one bottle per member.

So that’s it. 180 memberships.

Not fake scarcity. Just genuinely not much w**e.

The link is in our bio to get on the waitlist.

We had room for six more bottles, so we had a bit of fun with it.

The whole point of the new club is that it should feel like a good way to actually drink more of what we make, not just get a bigger cardboard box twice a year.

So the 12-bottle version gets a few extras we really wanted in there: EZY TGR Chillable Red, Columbia Gorge Syrah and a 2017 Sinnerman.

Then you get another Aligoté, Memorista and Off the Grid, because honestly, those are pretty easy bottles to get through.

Base Line and both Clos Scorpio w**es stay at one each. There just isn’t enough of them to start doubling those up.
That felt like the better way to do it.

12-bottle members also get free ground shipping on purchases, and everyone in the club gets 10% off O**m w**es year-round.

Comment CLUB and we’ll send you what you need to know.

Aligoté is one of those grapes that just makes sense here.

Our 2024 comes from Elkton, less than 30 miles from the Pacific, where the cooler conditions help it hang onto plenty of acidity.

That’s basically what we want from it. Something a bit bright and salty, fresh and really easy to want another glass of.

Pretty good argument for making more Aligoté in Oregon.

What do we actually want people drinking right now? Well, the Fall W**e Club six-pack basically answers that question.

The 2016 Base Line has been sitting with us for nearly 10 years. The two 2017 Clos Scorpio w**es are finally getting their first proper release. The Memorista, Off the Grid and Aligoté are in there because they’re drinking really well now.

There are younger Rieslings we could put in but they can wait until the spring.

The six-pack is $230 for Founding Members. If you go for 12 bottles or more, shipping is on us.

And we’re still messing around with what else goes into the 12-bottle case. There’ll be some pretty fun stuff in there.

Comment CLUB and we’ll send you the details.

September is about when I remember how much I like cooking things until the edges go brown.

Mushrooms come back and squash starts appearing everywhere. Butter becomes a completely reasonable ingredient again.

This is also when I start wanting w**es with a bit more going on. The Pinot Blanc with something mushroomy would be great. Music for Lovers can absolutely handle roast squash, brown butter and a fairly irresponsible amount of sage. I’d put the Aligoté next to roast chicken with mustard and leeks.

That’s probably my preferred approach to pairing anyway. Cook something you actually want to eat, then find a w**e that wants to be there too.
