I met this lovely man, Olly Penrice, at a dinner party not far from my home here in Mison.

First of all, the dinner invitation came from a new friend that I met this past fall in the waiting room of the Sisteron hospital (of all places😝)! Regardless, Rachael and I kept in touch and have had coffee and walks together since.

I was pleased to be invited for a six-person dinner party in their lovely home. And there I met Olly; a funny, witty man in which I enjoyed his conversation.

As the night went on, I learned his wife was a full-time painter like me and exhibited in various places in France in which we both knew about. Olly too is an artist, a photographer. Specifically, an astrophotographer. He even went as far as building an observatory on their property in the countryside of the base of the alps not far from my home. Plus, he and his wife housed photographers across the world to take part of his observatory.

Naturally, I thought about my very good friend Kevin in Portland. First, I pulled out my phone to show Kevin’s work. But, as it happens inside thick walls here in rural France, my cellular didn’t work. He asked me the name of my friend. “Kevin Morefield” I said, not expecting Olly to know him. To my great surprise his smile grew with a bit of a surprised expression. Then, he said with his english accent “yes, he’s quite brilliant with his photography, isn’t he”. Wow.. we both chuckled about it for a while.

With their passion, and their distance, the two have only communicated online. Maybe later this year that will change :)

Just pruned this rose. We call it “Dixie’s rose”. Dixie was the name of my grandmother that planted it. It sits behind the family rock that she made here in France. I can’t be sure, but I strongly believe it is a “Lincoln rose”.
It’s quite peaceful here and the sun makes it lovely in the afternoon to be outside. 🌞. And I’m sitting in front of the fountain my great grandfather made. ❤️

A little dinner I made. Duck confit with navet boule d’or (turnip golden balls). And a belgian endive salad. I made a saffron mirabelle sauce. It was lovely.
