Life on the farm

Life on the farm Living the good life on a smallholding in rural France Hi, we are Pete and Jen and we run a smallholding in Pamplie in the Deux Sevres region of rural France.

Our animals include sheep, quail, chickens, goats, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, rabbits and turkeys and the others that we don’t eat- 3 dogs including a very naughty Gordon setter, stubborn Newfoundland, very large Saint Bernard and 3 cats.. We moved here in 2010 to get out of the "rat race" and now having almost completed our renovations we are now "living our dream" and living “the good life” . Ou

r 4 bedroom farmhouse is set in a peaceful and quiet location with beautiful countryside surrounding us, but our passion is our animals. We spend most of our time outdoors with the animals and maintaining our land. For us our animals are our top priority as well as our source of food. We grow a huge selection of fruit and vegetables. We enjoy making our own bread, cheese, sausages, bacon, burgers, hams and sometimes cheese etc and from our garden produce we make jams, chutneys. We also make lots of products for me around the home such as laundry liquid, shampoo bars, soaps with our goat milk and dish washer tables. Pete has occasionally been known to make beer and cider.

We collected some new arrivals on Wednesday (that will be staying until Christmas if you catch my drift! 🦃🎄) A huge storm came Wednesday evening but they were safe and sound in the barn.

Well this was a shock this morning 😮 twin lambs in July 🤷‍♀️
We bought Wren at the end of January ready for "next year's lambing" she was to go with Nero in August obviously she and Nero decided to make it a bit sooner than that and must have got pregnant as soon as she arrived.

So the "we don't want another dog" didn't go to plan. Parker was struggling and we were having to sleep downstairs as his separation anxiety was through the roof.
On Friday we went to the SPA near Bordeaux as we'd seen they had a rescue Gordon Setter there. He was extremely stinky, underweight covered in knots and uncastrated. Let's say he's testing us at the moment with his hu***ng and marking but he has a wonderful temperament and gets on great with Parker.
So this is Fergus (was Shance) he's 4. Looking very handsome after his knots were cut out and he'd had a bath (✂️ castration next week when he's officially ours)
