Trying out a fresh new (ish) cuvée from .

Bright, crisp, and slightly spritzy it's a thirst-quencher that smashes it out of the park on hot days and warm evenings, when you're eating fresh seafood within sight and sound of the beach.

Made from a now quite rare Sicilian grape called Albanello.

Yr Afanc, a blend of Seyval Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Phoenix from Dell Vineyard in Monmouthshire.

The Yr Afanc is a mythical Welsh beast that preys on those that fall into its waters.

It's something of a pure, bright, refreshing wine itself, and with some bite too being full of tart green apple and lemon.

A touch of lees stirring is needed to give it a bit of body and take the sharper edge of the acidity (hey, this is winemaking in Wales, not the Languedoc).

A mythical beast of your own to track down should you find yourself in the Marcher realms.

This 2022 Chardonnay from Oregon's Willamette Valley by was just outrageously good.

A pure, perfectly poised white wine. Fresh acidity and a lovely creamy texture with pearls of succulent lemon and pear fruit.

The image of a snowy owl landing, lightly but deftly on a branch is spot on as metaphors go.

Bought from , about £36 which might not be your everyday spend but for a special occasion it's outstanding value and knocks spots off more expensive wines with 'smarter' labels and addresses.

Loved it.

Out enjoying some Blanco Deluxe at Shop Cuvee (by ).

The wine is from Catalonia, made using the native grape Xarel.lo, from vines that are 60-90 years old.

It's got some skin contact - so falls into the 'orange wine' spectrum though it's not too strong.

Really easy to drink, slightly herbal character (classic Xarel.lo) along with some pear and green apple.
