X MUSE INDUCTIVE

A bottle becomes a building.
A building becomes a body.
A staircase becomes a state of mind.

Painted across the surface of the X Muse bottle, the stair rises and descends simultaneously—its concave and convex rhythms recalling the cantilevered staircase leading to the crypt of Edwin Lutyens’s vast, unrealised cathedral for Liverpool, the only portion of his design to be built.

Yet these are not simply architectural steps.

In hypnotic induction, the staircase becomes an interior instrument: ten steps descending from the visible towards the invisible, from waking consciousness into trance. Each counted step loosens the gravity of the everyday. Each threshold opens onto another chamber of perception.

The X is both crossroads and Roman ten: the number of steps in the descent, and the Tenth Muse who gathers the other nine within her.

For what is a Muse if not a force that carries us outside ourselves?

The ultimate rapture is an altered state—a moment in which inspiration becomes possession, architecture becomes consciousness, and the vessel contains not only a spirit, but a passage.

X MUSE was born at Jupiter Artland, a contemporary sculpture park near Edinburgh. The park’s collection directly informs our identity, philosophy, and aesthetic.

Xth Muse by Ian Hamilton Finlay – A bust of Sappho, the poet named the Tenth Muse by Plato. She serves as our emblem and namesake.

The Light Pours Out of Me by Anya Gallaccio – A subterranean grotto lined with raw amethyst crystals, inspiring our amethyst-resting production process.

The Rose Walk by Pablo Bronstein – Chinoiserie and Gothic pavilions juxtaposed and connected by a rose garden, reflecting the interplay of heritage and architectural form central to X MUSE.

Temple of Apollo by Ian Hamilton Finlay – Positioned on a hill overlooking the water, framing a direct line of sight to the Xth Muse sculpture and connecting to our roots in Greek mythology.

Cells of Life by Charles Jencks – A major land art installation surrounding the ancient aquifer that provides the natural water for X MUSE.

Charles Jencks, ‘Cells of Life’ at Jupiter Artland.

Jencks conceived Cells of Life around a profound idea: that the smallest biological cell can give rise to the extraordinary complexity of life, shaped by the dialogue between land and water, the organic and the mineral.

The sculpture frames the ancient aquifer that is the source of our water. For us, this philosophy resonates deeply. X MUSE begins with elemental ingredients, pure water from this ancient source and heritage varieties of barley, transforming them through craftsmanship into something greater
