Madame Clicquot invented the Vintage Champagne back in 1810. The 2012 is the 66th vintage V***e Clicquot has declared. 🥂

A prodigious harvest pulled from an extremely challenging climate — and Pinot Noir runs the show at 51%, giving the wine the structure that’s so typically Clicquot, with Chardonnay for finesse and a little Meunier to round it out. The blend also folds in 13% still red wine, all Pinot Noir from Bouzy. 🍇

What makes the 2012 unusual is the foudres: 11% of the blend aged in large wooden casks, acting almost like spices to the rest — a lightly woody, vanilla, toasted edge worked into the fruit. Deep rose with copper hues, red fruit and wild strawberry, saffron, pastry and almond ✨
Vintage rosé or vintage blanc — which do you reach for? 🍾

51% Pinot Noir · 34% Chardonnay · 15% Meunier · 13% red wine (Bouzy Pinot Noir) · 11% foudre-aged · 12 Crus, all Grand & Premier Cru · 8g/l dosage · 25-year ageing potential

A rosé built for the table, not just the toast 🥂

Comtes de Champagne Rosé only gets made when the year earns it — and 2007 earned it. Seventy percent Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims Grands Crus, thirty percent Chardonnay off the Côte des Blancs, lifted with a touch of Bouzy red for that tannic backbone and dark-berry depth. Then more than ten years in the Saint-Nicaise chalk cellars, which date back to Gallo-Roman times.

Deep pink with glints of copper, crushed strawberries, lime and liquorice with just a hint of roast coffee, the attack taut and precise, the finish fruity and saline ✨

The Champagne par excellence of the gastronomic world — as happy next to lobster as it is with a wedge of old Comté. So which way would you take it first — the lobster or the cheese board? 🍾

Rosé champagne has struggled with its reputation. Too sweet, too pretty, not serious enough.
This bottle makes a case against all of that 🥂

Built on contrast: Chardonnay from Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims for freshness, Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne for fruit — 12% of it vinified as red to give the coral and rosewood color in the glass.

Pomegranate, lychee, guava, rose, fresh red berries on the nose. Warm spice underneath — tonka bean, nutmeg. The finish lands on peppermint and pink grapefruit ✨

Frédéric Panaïotis, former Cellar Master, called it “generous roundness and delicately subtle structure, which achieves surprising harmony.” Hard to say it better than that.

Does rosé champagne get the respect it deserves — or do you still see it as the afterthought on the wine list?

—
45% Chardonnay · 43% Pinot Noir (vinified as white) · 12% Pinot Noir (vinified as red) · 40–50 crus · 20–30% reserve wines · MLF · 2–3 years on lees · 8g/l dosage

“Entirely vinified in oak. Billecart-Salmon’s Le Sous Bois reaches back to an older way of making champagne — all three Champenois grape varieties, the original craft revived ✨

Chardonnay from the CĂ´te des Blancs leads, with Pinot Noir off the Montagne de Reims and Meunier from the Marne valley, built on reserve wines going back to 2006 and five years on the lees.

The oak shows through: pastry and citrus, malty hints turning to mocha and bergamot, then melted butter and gentle spices 🥂 Extra Brut, with very little dosage to hide behind.

Chef Jean-Pierre Vigato reaches for it with langoustines and slow-cooked veal under ceps — though he’s just as happy with it on a terrace at the end of the afternoon. When would you open a bottle like this? 🍾

—
43% Chardonnay (Côte des Blancs) · 28% Pinot Noir (Montagne de Reims, Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ) · 29% Meunier (Vallée de la Marne) · vinified in oak · reserve wines back to 2006 · 5 years on lees · Extra Brut”

Frost killed one vine in ten that year — then Champagne did something it almost never does: gave a second harvest.

That’s the 1985, and Salon held it back until the millennium before releasing it. A hard winter, clusters ripening unevenly, then sunny September and October that turned the whole vintage around and let the vines ripen a rare late crop right at the end of October.

Salon is blanc de blancs at its most single-minded: 100% Chardonnay, every grape from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs, old vines on the mid-slopes, yields kept low. That’s where the intensity comes from.

Salon’s oenologist Alain Terrier called it bright gold and glittering — candied fruits, hazelnut, a touch of vanilla, fresh and full of Chardonnay fruit, with a finish that just keeps going ✨🥂

Held in the cellar until the millennium — would you have the patience, or pull the cork the day it arrived? 🍾

“Capricious Indulgence” — that’s what Krug’s Tasting Committee called the 2006 ✨

The year was mercurial: extreme heat, dry stretches, intense rainfall, weather that refused to settle. And yet what came out of it, after more than ten years in Krug’s cellars, is round, deep, generous — a champagne the cellar master describes as one that lingers and spreads warmth, revealing its opulence and depth.

Toasted almonds and maple syrup, meringue and mandarin liqueur, giving way to frangipane and tarte tatin, finishing on pink grapefruit skin 👌🏼

A capricious year, an indulgent bottle. Have you opened the 2006 — what stayed with you? 🥂

“Really all about soil and expression of place.” Peter Liem on Laherte Frères’ Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature ✨

100% Chardonnay from the south slopes of Épernay, vines around 35 years old, worked ecologically. Half the blend is reserve wine aged in barrels on lees — and what gets bottled sees zero dosage. Liem notes the 20% malolactic helps the acidity find harmony without sugar to lean on.

Citrus and apple fruitiness with hints of dried mango and preserved ginger 👌🏼 RVF calls it “fringant” — the domain’s natural energy carried through to a refined, clean finish.

What’s the best zero-dosage champagne you’ve had? 🥂

In 1902, Art Nouveau master Émile Gallé painted a spray of white anemones for a Champagne house in Épernay. More than a century later it’s still on the bottle — and still one of the most recognisable labels in the world 🥂

This is Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque, the original Belle Époque vintage cuvée, first poured in 1964. The 2013 pours pale gold with apple-green glints — fresh and delicate, white fruit and flowers, then all freshness and finesse through the middle.

Cellarmaster Séverine Frerson sees white orchids in it: grace and elegance, delicacy and vibrancy, that taut, structured quality. Hard to put it better.

Noble company on the table, too — king prawns with creamy polenta, sole meunière, a wedge of Comté. What would you pour the 2013 Belle Époque alongside? ✨🍾

1976. That’s when Krug composed its first rosé champagne 🥂

The 5th generation built it on the Maison’s own art of blending — white base wines for elegance and freshness, traditionally macerated Pinot Noir reds for structure and spice. The 26ème Édition is composed around the 2014 harvest, blended with 28 wines stretching back to 2005, including a Pinot Noir from Sacy that brought brilliant redcurrant, and red wines from Aÿ and Taissy chosen for spice.

Pale pink in the glass. Rose hips, mulberries, redcurrant and peony, with cured ham and a turn of pepper. Honey, citrus and dried fruit, long finish, fine bubbles ✨

And the pairing Krug themselves recommend? Very good anchovies — the salt turns the fruit into velvet. Would you have guessed that one? 🍾

—
44% Pinot Noir (incl. 11% macerated) · 30% Chardonnay · 26% Meunier · 28 wines from 7 years (2005–2014) · 33% reserve wines · built around the 2014 harvest

“The equivalent of two months of rain fell in just two days.” Mid-August 2010, Champagne — and somehow this is what came out of it 🥂

A year that couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. Winter frosts and the coolest start since 1996. Then a warm dry summer, then that violent rainfall in mid-August that flipped everything. Maturation went fast and generous, but Botrytis hit the Pinot Noir. Like 1995, the grapes carried an elevated balance — sweet and acidic at once — and parcels had to be sorted hard to bring out the best of it.

Nearly 15 years in the cellar, and the wine is surprising — less powerful than you’d expect, almost displaying its power as lightness. Intense and precise, but also delicate, dense, silky. A mastery of opposites that fills the mouth with this spherical, suspended presence and keeps stretching out as you taste it ✨

Dom Pérignon calls it a radical exploration — pushing the raw power of Pinot Noir red into vibrant harmony. The 2010 earned the phrase.

Have you opened a Dom Pérignon Rosé yet — which vintage stayed with you? 🍾
