A privilege to visit with Michel Drappier at Drappier Champagne in Urville, Champagne
Stepping into the 12th-century limestone cellars of Champagne Drappier, we were immediately greeted by Michel Drappier’s warm, thoughtful hospitality and his knowledgeable team.
We tasted our way through several signature cuvées. The standout was the *Cuvée Quattuor Blanc de 4 Blancs* — a rare blend of Pinot Blanc (Blanc Vrai), Arbane, Petit Meslier, and Chardonnay. It’s vibrant, saline, chiseled and precise. Some of these varietals may have been « forgotten but unforgettable ».
The cellar visit itself was insightful and enlightening. Walking past the archives and giant Melchizedech (30 litres), we learned about their liqueurs de dosage, made in-house from reserve wines. It’s the signature of Drappier’s style.
Spending a moment in those medieval cellars and hearing the stories behind the bottles was a real privilege - authentic and generous. Merci Michel. 🥂
