Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We were accustomed to forecasting what lay ahead, but this year brought some unexpected and uneasy challenges. We have been through a lot. There are regrets, disappointments, gains and achievements. Imagine if we had prior knowledge of this year’s major events but no idea how the market would react. Specifically, imagine an investor who, a year ago, had been told that, in 2022, the Nord Stream pipelines would be blown up, French nuclear plants would shut down, the US-Saudi relationship would break down, and Iran would flirt with a revolution. The investor would have likely bought crude oil futures, which would now be down marginally for the year. Hopefully, the coming year will be better for making greater achievements.
