I was excited to receive my delivery from Flax Farm yesterday , so this week’s Seed Fact Sunday is all about ground flax 🌱

When ground flax meets water, its soluble fibre forms a lovely thick gel. That gel can help bind ingredients in baking. Try mixing 1 tablespoon of ground flax with 3 tablespoons of water, then leave it to thicken for a simple egg substitute in some bakes.

Ground flax also contains plant omega‑3 (ALA) and lignans. Tiny seed, clever little baker.

And Wren is always happy when we make a drop here — it means a trip to the beach afterwards!

A customer, Stephen, told me he adds Roll & Go to his breakfast, so this morning I gave it a try on my porridge.

And on a dreich day like today, it was just the thing! The cacao softened into the warm porridge, with all those lovely crunchy bits and little bursts of fruit. Such a simple way to make a bowl of porridge feel like a treat 😋

A simple, crunchy snack with a savoury kick!

Drain and rinse a tin of chickpeas, then pat them really dry with a clean tea towel. Toss with a little olive oil and air-fry at 200°C, shaking the basket every few minutes, until golden and crisp.

Add a generous sprinkle of Gutful Foods Sweet Heat for the last few minutes, then leave them to cool a little so they crisp up.

Lovely for snacking or scattered over salads and soups 🌱

After a busy weekend with two markets and a poorly baby keeping me up at night, I didn’t manage to post Seed Fact Sunday — so here’s a Monday Morsel instead!!

Psyllium comes from the husk of Plantago ovata seeds. Its soluble fibre absorbs water and swells into a thick gel. That’s more than just satisfying to watch: the gel holds water and changes stool texture, helping soften hard stools and add bulk, while also helping firm loose stools.

Psyllium has also been shown to improve overall IBS symptoms. Research has found effects on LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and blood sugar measures too, particularly in people with type 2 diabetes. One clever gel, with a lot going on.
