OK our market loving peeps this is slight departure, my game my rules. I attended the pre opening review of our nieces Gonks of Garden Hillocks. I was going to post some pics I took but "The Filming Da - Glen Cairns" does a far better job.

Why we might want to support our local food producers. Super market supplies depend on these large farm operations and imports.

Before supermarkets much of our produce came from local producers, especially meat and veg. Remember the local Green Grocer and local butcher?

Farmers gathered much less wheat in 2026 and dairy farmers' costs rose.

occasionally we will pick on a local maker and feature them. Forma Designs are a regular at Curated Aberdeen. George has boundless energy every time I speak with him at the Bon Accord Centre where I am usually picking brains on AI technical issues. So far his year he has slaved 5km of climbing rope destined for landfill and a fair anpunt of other plastics he reprocesses into products.

Forma Designs creates sustainable products in Aberdeen, Scotland, by repurposing retired climbing rope into belts, keychains, and accessories. Handmade, eco-friendly, and designed for climbers and outdoor lovers.

Its been all over BBC this morning with some, seemingly light hearted warning about future food security. A few suggestions we should be stocking up.

Aberdeen Climate Action had the topic of future food security discussed at their monthly Climate café back in April 2025, "Environmental risks to Scotland's food supplies" This year's weather aberrations have been a shot across the bows which Westminster is floundering to respond.

If we support our local producers today they are more likely to be around in the future when we really may come to depend on them.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Sometimes we come across fabulous stories of self sufficiency. We just had to share this one. Woodcutter Stuart Grant, 89 year old grand dad, Tomich Inverness shire. Got to love his style. Wonder how he got around the planners. I just love stories/people like this. Quite jealous am I.

Morning to all our local market supporters. Sorry a little late this week as we try and get this out on Tues at latest. Here is this weeks events, 6 craft day events, 7 farmers markets. Pitmedden gardens are having a 2 day apple festival, and next week will see the Laigh O’Moray annual Charity Show.

WE have listed Trinity Centre but so far they have been a no show. I am sure its operational issues behind the scenes.

Now is a good time to stock up for winter supplies. There are a wide range of food storage methods which we might just do a feature on some time.

This year’s weather shocks and their impact on food production are another reminder of the growing importance of food supply resilience.

North East Scotland has a thriving agricultural and horticultural sector, but smaller producers and makers can still struggle with something very basic — effective routes to local markets and customers.

Locally Made NE is an experiment to see whether a dedicated regional platform can help bridge that gap, building on research into local farmers markets undertaken in 2020.
The flyer below shows how the idea is developing.

I’d be particularly interested in thoughts from producers, event organisers and others involved in the local economy. Any words of advice or support from the many agencies could be most welcome. [email protected]

Could something like this make a practical difference?

this is a reel our team created earlier this year as an experiment, I thought we should share this. OK we used AI as the costs doing it otherwise is outside our non existent budget. We are experimenting with AI much like everyone else.
