Shepherds Ice Cream Now delivering nationwide The ice cream is made by hand in small-batches. We change our flavours throughout the year taking advantage of what is in season.

We make artisan ice-creams, sorbets and ice cream cakes which we sell all year round through Shepherds Parlour in Hay on Wye and throughout the summer at outdoor events and festivals. We use a base of whole sheep’s milk and make a gelato-style ice cream that is light and creamy but only around 6 or 7% fat – around half the fat of American-style ice-cream. We sell direct to customers to be eaten wi

thin a few days of making. No two batches are ever quite the same. The difference between eating Shepherds ice-cream and factory-made ice cream is like the difference between eating home-made soup and the soup you get from a tin.

Fancy slinging ice cream this summer?

We're looking for a supervisor for our Abergavenny shop for between 1.5 and 2.5 days per week (depending on applicant). Any candidate will be proactive, friendly and have experience working front of house in hospitality already.

Could you be our next ice cream maker?

It may not feel like it but Spring is just around the corner (🙏) and it's almost time for us to come out of hibernation. We are looking for someone to join us at our production site in Herefordshire four days a week from April until the end of August.
If you are proactive, reliable and hygienic and fancy churning ice cream all summer then please get in touch - [email protected].

Please note - this role is based in a rural location so any applicant must have their own means of transport.

Well we're back at it, cleaning, painting and prepping. Ever wondered how we get the seeds out of our raspberry sorbet?

Well it's quite the job - we have a machine that deseeds them and we pass the raspberries back through four or five times, each time taking more of the juice until we're left with amazing smooth raspberry pulp and a dense mush of seeds - it's so satisfying it might just be my favourite machine. Doesn't half make a mess though!

We've been having a little shutdown. It's that time of year when we get to take a break and it has been such a joy to head back to Andalusia, (whilst giving our merch a bit of a tour).

7 years ago David and I spent a winter working at , a true gem of a hotel in the Alpujarras, we thought we would have been back before now but... life got in the way. This January, finally we returned and it was really very good to be back. We walked, we ate, we bought fish from the fish van and custard filled pastries from the bread van. There was snow, there was sunshine and there was lungfulls of mountain air.

We have also, of course been seeking out ice cream and in Seville was just perfect - so perfect I failed to get any photos. We now have a final couple of days in Málaga - any ice cream recommendations gratefully received 👇🏻.

Well my last post was a little inaccurate - we will be open from 11am tomorrow.3 days left before hibernation!

Your cakes are all coming along nicely. Lowri has been working so hard to get them all together, and here she is just casually free-handing chocolate swirls. She has been decorating everything so beautifully and all in the same week as fielding our food hygiene inspection and coming away with another 5 stars! We are very lucky to have her and I know many of you have told me that too!

Excuse the very quick shop front photoshoot but I wanted to get these out there as quickly as possible.
We now have t-shirts (adults and kids), caps and totes available in the ice cream shop! We've just done a short run for now so forgive us if some sizes sell out early. T-shirts are all screen printed and organic cotton. The tote is also screen printed and lovely large useful size with thick straps to fit all of your market day shopping in. And the caps (a personal favourite) are embroidered with classic Shepherds colours.

And we're back! We're very excited for our Christmas reopening, the stars are hung, the freezer is stocked and Christmas Pudding ice cream is on the scoop counter.

December is officially your last time to treat yourself to one of our ice creams, hot chocolates or waffles until we reopen in late March so don't say we didn't warn you.

Lowri will be making and decorating cakes over the next few weeks so you can come and see them for yourself and ask any questions, deadline for pre orders is the 14th.

It's official, December is here and we're into our final countdown for cake preorders. Our ice cream cakes are two layers of ice cream sandwiched between two layers of cake and can be kept in the freezer and pulled out at the ultimate moment when you are well and truly done with cooking!

We have some great flavours for you this year in 6inch and 7inch cakes:

Christmas Pudding (pictured)
Collections are from Abergavenny on the 20th, 21st, 23rd and 24th and Hay-on-Wye, Kington and Presteigne on the 23rd.
