Portnellan is a small organic family run farm on the south-eastern shore of Loch Lomond. The focus of the farm is producing quality Aberdeen Angus beef which we sell directly from the farm. Did you know that you can come and stay on the farm with your campervan? We only have a couple of ‘pitches’ to ensure a peaceful stay. Yesterday we had a lovely group of American guests out on the boat, interested in visiting the MacFarlane Clan castle ruins on Island I Vow at the northern end of Loch Lomond. After a visit to the ruins (and removing some of the litter left there) we began our cruise back down the loch and were lucky enough to catch a glimpse through the clouds of the partial eclipse over the Cobbler. All in all a very enjoyable and memorable evening!

It seems like summer is finally ready to return this week with temperatures set to soar to the dizzying heights of the high 20’s, which means that the best place to be is on the water. So whether it’s a private speedboat tour with a picnic on an island or a leisurely paddle along the shoreline, we can help you make the most of the good weather.

Please do book in advance, if you just turn up there’s a good chance I’ll be off checking cows at the other end of the farm. And don’t forget to bring your suncream!

Portnellan basking in the warm evening sunshine.

It’s been a busy week on the farm with the arrival of several new calves, the daily routine of mucking out sheds and feeding, moving cows from paddock to paddock and the inevitable issues with water troughs blocking as debris and the occasional newt swim down the pipe.

Today we hosted a lovely family visiting Scotland for the first time from the USA for a farm tour followed by a spin round the loch on the boat, punctuated by a short stop on to sample the local whisky and haggis flavoured crisps.
