Who knew there was a National Hedgerow Week. Well we do now and it's 4th to 11th May. The theme...hedgerows are trees too.
Hedgerow Benefits are many and varied
• Nectar and habitat for pollinators
• Habitat for natural pest control
• Shade and shelter for livestock
• Biosecurity for livestock
• Shelter for wild mammals and birds
• Wildlife corridors
• Prevention of agricultural run-off and soil erosion
• Increases rainwater permeability into soil
• Carbon store
• Cultural and aesthetic value
And of course, importantly – human foraging for wild flavours!
