Great Langdale Glamping

Great Langdale Glamping Great Langdale Glamping is situated in the Lake District on a traditional working fell farm. Due to us being a working farm we don't except pets.

And just like that, the seasons start to change and we roll into September 🍂

The youngest was back at school today & his excitement was that he doesn't have to sit cross-legged on the carpet anymore for assembly- he actually gets a chair now he's gone into Juniors! Small wins hey 😉

I'm actually missing him already & its only been a few hours 😢 Anyhow it's back to the day job 🥰

If you've also got the summer blues this week and want something to look forward to then we've got a few key dates still available heading into Autumn, so why not get something booked & in the diary you could make a weekend of it or bring the family and grab a few cabins for a full site takeover? 😀

*Here’s what’s coming up locally:*

*🔥 BONFIRE WEEKEND*
*Sat 7th Nov* - Bonfire & fireworks display over in Hawkshead (we went last year & it was brilliant!) plus other local displays around the area 🎆

*🎄 AMBLESIDE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON*
*Sat 21st Nov* - Honestly, it's brilliant. Lantern parade all through Ambleside, stalls, crafts, fair & delicious food. There are also Christmas cruises where you get to meet Santa! 🤶

Cosy pods, underfloor heating, log burners on, hot tubs steaming - Autumn is normally stunning in the valley so what are you waiting for ? 👌

If you need any help working out dates / cabins, drop us a DM below 🫶

Hi guys! Quick question for you... 👋

We’ve been thinking about adding *proper farm tours* that you can book when you stay with us.

We welcome 10 families a week here, and over the years we’ve seen how much you genuinely love the farm side of things - not just the glamping bit.

We’d love to show you a bit more behind the scenes!

So, can you help us shape it? We’d love to know:

🚜 What would you most like to see?

🐑 What would you like us to tell you about? (animals, daily life, history...?)

⏰ How long would you want it to last?

💷 And what would feel like a fair price for, say, 2 hours just for you and your family, seeing all things farm?

Pop your thoughts in the comments - we read every single one and we’d really value your ideas ❤️

Be honest….....Pinhole projector 📦 or colander hat 🍝 who made what ? 🙄😆

Spend your days doing absolutely nothing — book in hand, kettle on, maybe a wander if you feel like it.

And the evenings?

Wood-fired tub under the stars, steam rising while the fells turn pink.

Come on then what are you waiting for ? ☺️

*LATE AVAILABILITY*

We’ve got Friday 4th, Friday 11th, and Friday 18th open for 3 nights — all at £450 or 2 nights at £325 🫶

Here’s Jonathan shearing a Herdwick gimmer hogg — one of our April 2025 female lambs.
This is her first shear at 15 months old ✂️

Not many farmers still shear their own. It’s brutal, back-breaking work, so most bring in shearing teams. But Jonathan does every single one of ours 💪

Wool used to be worth something. Once upon a time the wool cheque would pay a farm’s rent for a year. These days it won’t even cover the cost of getting a shearer in. There was a time when farmers just burned it on the farm because it cost more to haul it to the wool depot than it was worth.

We’re lucky though. Our Cheviot wool goes to Lake District Tweed & they make beautiful throws , cushions etc from it. We also send some of our Herdwick wool off to make compost so at least something good comes from it 🪴 🌿 💐

On a final note if you fancy it whilst you stay Jonathan could give you a short back & sides 😉 😜

It’s brilliant to see Harrison putting in the yards with his new pup. Training a sheepdog is no small thing - and even tougher when it’s your first. On top of that, he’s learning to gather the fells with you, not just the fields🐕🐑

It’s a bit like reaching the top of your trade: tough going, but incredibly rewarding when you get there. They’re both young, and there’s so much to learn, but it’s a joy watching them figure it out together.

He’d been asking for his own sheepdog for ages, and we wanted to wait for the right time… and the right pup. Dad has to keep a bit of distance too - we don’t want the pup deciding to work for him instead of Harrison! You need a good dog in there to train, and the right match for Harrison’s age and abilities.

They’ve only been together a couple of weeks, but they’re already pretty inseparable. You can see the bond growing and their confidence bouncing off each other. In this game, you’re only as good as your dog and the time you put in 💪

The funny bit? Just as I was watching this video, I got a message from his teacher about some unfinished homework. Turns out he _was_ doing homework after school - just not the kind that comes with worksheets. This is the stuff he’ll use for the rest of his life. One system doesn’t fit all, and some people are just born to be outside, not sat behind a desk🫶

P.S. Don’t worry - he’ll be doing his school homework too before the messages start 😂
