🌟Aman Round Up 2025🌟
This year’s round up starts with a shout out for the girls.
Heledd had a phenomenal day at Llandeilo Show. She won the Blue Ribbon and top points cup in her section in the tent and scooped seven firsts from art to flower arranging, from photography to handwriting.
Rhianydd continues to spread the range of cattle shown for various herds, but her top moment was winning the Champion YFC Baby Beef Show at the Welsh Winter Fair with her own heifer. “Rhosyn” was a Lim x Blue and sold for £4,000.
Our activities on the Texel side started with a visit from the Shropshire Club in June, run as a joint operation with Cwmcerrig and Teilo. It was a fun weekend in the company of friends. We’re always open to hosting visits from individuals or clubs. Just get in touch.
In the summer flock competitions we were awarded Champion of Dyfed and the cup for best gimmers. Whilst in the South Wales competition we took the cup for Best Group of 5 Ram Lambs by same sire. For the second year running our winning lambs were by Knap Gate Crasher. We went on to the All Wales and were awarded the Reserve Champion.
In the club show a ewe lamb, which was spotted by James Draper on the flock visit, was Reserve Champion. She is by Knap Gate Crasher out of a Tyrcan ewe by Hope Valley C the Stars who goes back to the 2,000gns Foreman Hill Lanark Crackers ewe lamb. More of this bloodline later.
In the Commercial classes a Knap Angus Ogg x Welsh Mule ewe was 1st place. A lamb carcass out of Knap Gate Crasher was 3rd prize. It was 56kg live, killed out at 29.7kg (53%) and graded E2.
Online, in the Dyfed Club Virtual Progeny Show, we had 1st individual ram lamb and reserve champion with the full brother of the Llandeilo show ewe lamb. This lamb, Aman Iestyn Harries, would go on to be 3rd prize open ram lamb in the NSA at Builth and sold for 2,600gns.
Another two brothers were the 1st pair of ram lambs, and a sister 1st ewe lamb. As these were all by Knap Gate Crasher it’s no surprise he took the top points stock sire award.
He also sired Aman Ieuan Evans, 6th open ram lamb at the Solway & Tyne sale in Lockerbie and sold for 1,000gns. To wrap up another great year for him he sired the Reserve Champion gimmer at the DTBC in lamb sale at Whitland.
It was a busy year in the procurement department. From Orkney via Lanark came Garson Iniesta. He is by Tillycairn Hakka, a son of Clanfield Golden, out of a Milnbank ewe by Knockem Ferocious.
The splitting of the Solway and Tyne sale this year definitely made Carlisle a buyers’ market. We had a job in mind, the usual skin and tops & ends, but had to be flawless in terms of silky white hair. We found two potentials, Tophill Interceptor and Peacehay High & Mighty. Trade was such we managed to pick up both. We were chuffed because in a normal year they’d be five figure tups.
Unusually we’ve introduced some female blood as well. The handful of females from the Tyrcan flock joined before lambing. The Teilo Progeny Show Champion, who was also the Dyfed Club Show Champion from Llandeilo, was bought at the NSA in Builth. She is by Castlecairn General G out of the Dam of the 20,000gns Teilo Iasu Mowredd. As such she traces to the sister of Aman Vyrnwy.
At Builth Babes we bought an Auldhouseburn gimmer. She is by Hope Valley Golden Balls out of a dam by Haymount Fandabidozi and traces to CKC10. The same way bred at the top price gimmer from the sale, she is in lamb to Okehall Hammerhead, 2025 Sire of the Year.
EDIT - just sneaking in to the round up is the purchase of a Claybury ewe lamb. Rhianydd was working at the dispersal sale and we had a daughter of the lamb that was in the belly of the 10,000gns Allanfauld ewe when James bought her out of Wedderburn Highlander.
So with that we end, as we started, with a shout out for the girls…
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda 🥂
