This week, the Owls embarked on an exciting adventure! We took a walk to the lakes, where we explored the local wildlife and listened to various sounds. Some of the children heard birds singing and enjoyed the crunch of leaves beneath their feet. We also collected sticks, leaves, and pinecones. Upon returning to the nursery, we discussed the animals that might inhabit the sticks and leaves; some children suggested worms, birds, and spiders. We then lined up the sticks to compare their lengths. Great work, Owls!

Following on from last weeks interest, Foxes went on a bug hunt the garden. We moved logs and tyres to see what we could find. To begin with we only found a cope of woodlouse and some spiders. When Lucie lifted up a tyre we thought it was just a bit of mud but when we had a 'proper' look, we saw it was a toad who was camouflaged. Some of the children stroked the toad, others just wanted to look at it. Afterwards we joined Jenny and sang some songs about bugs and spiders.

The children in Mouse Room have been using different resources to roll on the planks of wood. To begin with they used small coloured balls and took it in turns to roll the balls down the planks of wood. They then came up with their own idea to roll the small tyres to each other. Great team work Mouse Room!

This week in the mouse room, we have been cleaning our painting easel. The children have been making lovely marks on the easel, so we decided it was time for a quick wash, and the children loved helping. We used water and lots of different rags to give it a good clean.

This week in Owls, we have been focusing on road safety. The children have been discussing what keeps us safe near roads, such as holding a grown-up's hand and waiting at traffic lights. We also learned how to cross the road safely by following the steps: 'Stop, look, and listen.' Some children took their interest further into the construction area, where they built their own roads, cars, and tunnels. Well done, Owls!

The children in mouse room enjoyed the sandpit this week, we have pretended that it has been a construction zone. The children used the diggers to scoop up the sand and transport them over the side of the tuff tray. One child noticed the cones and pointed out they were "yellow" where as another child notice they had holes in them.

Today is International Dog Day! This week, we have been celebrating by drawing pictures of our own dogs. Some of the Owl children have shared photos of their dogs and other pets, which we have displayed during group time. We have enjoyed discussing how we care for our pets, as well as creating imaginary pets and naming them. Great job on the mark making, Owls!
