Runner Beans with tomato, garlic and chilli

Ingredients
300g runner beans
3 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely sliced
a large pinch chilli flakes
2 cloves
2 x 400g tins plum tomatoes, drained, or fresh tomatoes (blanched and skinned)
small bunch fresh basil, leaves torn

Method
Run a potato peeler down either side of the beans to remove any stringy bits. Cut on the diagonal into 2cm pieces. Heat the olive oil in a large, wide frying pan and add the garlic. Cook for 2 minutes, then add the beans, chilli and cloves.
Cook for 2 more minutes, then tip in the tomatoes. Cover and cook for 20-30 minutes, until the beans are tender and sauce is thick and rich. Stir through the basil just before serving.

From our Growers🌱
We are very excited that, for the first time in a few years, we have grown our own aubergines! Aubergines require a long hot growing season, so they have been perfect for growing this year. They are very sensitive to late frosts in May/June so starting them on a heated bench in our polytunnels, as well as giving them extra protection from above with a Propagation unit, was key.

Aubergine, also known as eggplant and brinjal, is technically a fruit and a berry. It's in the Solinacace family along with tomatoes, peppers and potatoes. They come in many colours, shapes and sizes from the standard bulbous purple ones you see in supermarkets to long thin green, purple or white, or small and round like an egg (hence 'eggplant'!). The soft, absorbent and 'meaty' texture lends itself to absorbing lots of flavour from sauces, oils and spices. When you roast aubergines until they are soft and creamy they can be used to make dips and sauces.

For a simple dinner try chopping up aubergine and courgette and mixing with chopped garlic and olive oil. Roast for an hour or until so soft it easily breaks apart with a fork. Stir through pasta and serve with a hard cheese.

September at the Farm 🐷🍎👩
September is the perfect month to holiday at the Farm. There's heaps to see and do. We are busy harvesting, looking after animals and it's cooler and quieter too.

Come for the day, the weekend or longer. If you would like to stay over, choose a log cabin with wood burner for cosy evenings in, and we have a country pub on site for meals cooked for you if you fancy it.

September is even an ideal time to camp at Church Farm! The forecast promises warm days, cool nights, and minimal rain, making it perfect for a countryside escape. Autumn is a magical time to witness the changing seasons in the countryside. Keep an eye out for the birds and other wildlife that call the farm home.

The roadworks do not prevent access to us.
