Location Update
We’ve had quite a few questions recently about why the market isn’t back on Shrovetide Walk yet, so we wanted to clear things up properly 👇
Despite what some may assume, the Ashbourne Reborn works are not fully complete and unfortunately, Shrovetide Walk still hasn’t been finished.
Before we can return, the surface needs to be fully resin treated, which was originally scheduled for completion back in October 2025. Until that’s done, by the guidance of DDDC we cannot operate as a market where we belong.
Trust us when we say
we WANT to be back there just as much as you do.
It’s where the market belongs, and we know it works best for everyone.
In terms of returning to the Market Place, this is unfortunately not something we are able to do at present. This decision hasn’t been taken lightly. Our midweek customer base includes many elderly and less able visitors who rely on the close proximity of disabled parking at our current location. Accessibility is a priority for us.
There are also ongoing issues with vehicles parking in the Market Place despite signage, which creates significant challenges when setting up early in the morning. Delays to setup directly impact our traders’ ability to earn for the day, and we operate a strict zero vehicle movement policy after 9am to prioritise public safety. In addition, surrounding businesses require regular delivery access during the week, which further limits what is feasible in that space.
At the moment, we’re receiving a high volume of complaints about the market’s current location. While we understand the frustration, we do want to gently highlight that many discussions have been had about where we stand and how we continue to operate in the best interest of everyone.
What really makes the difference is continued support from those who do show up each week, our traders rely on it 💛
We are actively pushing for progress and just as frustrated with the delays. We feel like Shrovetide Walk has been overlooked, and we’re doing everything we can to get this resolved so the market can return home.
