Thirty-five sheep killed. Fourteen more injured.

A Suffolk dog owner has been banned indefinitely from keeping dogs after a devastating livestock worrying attack left nearly 50 sheep dead or injured.

Police say the case is a stark reminder of the consequences irresponsible dog ownership can have for farming families.

The owner was also ordered to pay £1,224 in compensation to the farmer, as well as a further £1,000 in court costs.

This is Walnut, a three year old, naturally polled Hereford bull. What are your thoughts on naturally polled Herefords versus horned? Is there a place for the polled Herefords in the rare breed system? Edit for clarity - Walnut is an OP British polled bull from the Awnells herd.

Many of our native breeds of poultry are in real decline. Some breeds are now restricted to a handful of breeders with numbers nationally in double figures. The risk of Avian Influenza lockdowns and the continuing ban on poultry shows in England is reducing breeding even further and -without shows- breeders are denied the ‘shop window’ on which they depend for new enthusiasts and breed sales. Particularly at risk are dual purpose regional breeds such as the Norfolk Grey and the Derbyshire Redcap.
Larger scale - free range flocks of these attractive, productive birds are almost unheard of. If you are considering hens - or have room for a few more - please think rare breed regional. We mustn’t lose them.
