Gusbourne

Gusbourne Welcome to Gusbourne. Vintage English Sparkling Wine. The original Gusbourne Estate in Appledore, Kent dates back to 1410. The first vines were planted that year.
(329)

In 2004, Andrew Weeber took over the estate with a clear vision and a single goal: to create English sparkling wines that would stand up alongside the very finest offerings from across the globe. In 2010 the debut vintages of Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2006 and Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2006 were released to critical acclaim. Gusbourne quickly earned a reputation as a producer of outstanding quality wines, with accolades from some of the industry's most exacting critics.

Great wine begins long before harvest. It begins with the land.

This World Environment Day, we’re reflecting on the importance of caring for the landscapes that shape every bottle we make.

From nurturing soil health and encouraging biodiversity across our vineyards to taking a thoughtful, long-term approach to viticulture, sustainability is part of every season at Gusbourne.

Our summer menu is made for relaxed drinking and leisurely grazing overlooking the vineyard.

For something light, enjoy a snack board with Kentish crisps, olives & salted almonds. Or, enjoy local Kent & Sussex cheeses with chutney, quince & crackers.

For a more substantial lunch, the Vineyard Platter for Two showcases the best of the season. Our current menu includes Romney Marsh lamb sausage roll, fennel salami, local cheeses, fresh salads, sourdough & a sweet treat - carefully selected by our Head Chef, Anthony Coppard.

Whether you’re stopping by for a tasting or making an afternoon of it, this is the best way to enjoy the flavours of Kent while overlooking the beautiful landscape

Another moment from the Gusbourne archives. Vineyard Manager Jon Pollard stands amongst the vines in 2006, during the early years of establishing the estate.

As the vineyards took shape, so too did a deeper understanding of the land beneath them. “We always knew there was plenty of history beneath our feet,” Jon reflects. What began as vineyard site preparation soon revealed centuries of stories hidden within the soil - from Anglo-Saxon coins and Roman artefacts to remnants of Appledore’s maritime and wartime past.

“The Gusbourne Estate itself, and the area around Appledore, is steeped in maritime history. At one point the shoreline would have come right up to the bottom of our vineyards.”

Today, that same proximity to the coast continues to shape the character of the vineyard, with maritime influences playing an important role in the growing conditions that define Gusbourne wines.

These early images are a reminder that every vineyard has a history - and at Gusbourne, that story stretches far beyond the vines themselves.
