Pluckley Pork

Pluckley Pork Rare breed Berkshire's provides dark and flavoursome pork. Intensively farmed pigs lack flavour in our opinion. We sell fresh and cured meat, salami etc.

JOIN THE PROTEIN KICK FOR 2026
Pork is very versatile and also high in protein. Here I have cooked caramilised minced pork, Vietnamese style.
With our greek yoghurt, gem lettuce and fresh chillis all wrapped up.
Gorgeous - even if I say so myself!

Customers are often surprised by the appearance of our pork. The flesh is darker, the fat runs all the way through the joint and the skin is thicker.
A combination of ours being 🐷rare breed porkers, 🐖 the fact that they are reared free range and that 🐽 they have a different diet, makes a huge difference. Tasty pork you simply cannot buy in a supermarket.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
This weeks report from a local market on pig sales - "The best finished continental types remain selling well to £137.50 per head.
Well finished native types just shy of £100 per head for their best.
The best results are achieved with continental types that are well fleshed and weigh 80 – 100kg"

We calculate that our FREE RANGE porkers cost average 50p a day to raise. A native FREE RANGE at 50kg would take us 7 months to bring through = costing us £105. If we took FREE RANGE pigs to market we would not make any profit.

We prefer our field to fork sales in any event, as we have full control over how the animal is born, raised and finished. However, we are fortunate to have our own outlet through our farm shop.

NB. The cost for us per pig to finished and slaughter (considering travel costs) brings the cost above 50p a day.
The cost per day factors in feed, water and water storage, labour, housing, fence and ground repairs, any vet bills etc....
