We’re really grateful for our amazing staff at Lowe’s Potatoes as we couldn’t do what we do without them. So pleased that Roy has been given a RASE award for an amazing 50 years service to our farm. Incredible.
We are delighted to announce that Roy Turner has been presented with a RASE Long Service Award, recognising 50 years of dedicated service at Tib Hall Farm, Hurley, Warwickshire.
Roy's story began in the summer of 1976, when, as a local schoolboy, he joined ten other youngsters hand-picking potatoes. While the others were soon distracted, Roy kept his head down and worked hard. His determination impressed the family at H Lowe & Sons so much that he was offered a full-time position at the end of his first day.
Fifty years later, Roy remains an integral part of the business.
Starting with livestock duties and milking cows, Roy developed a passion for machinery and became an exceptionally skilled, entirely self-taught engineer and fabricator. Over the years he has rebuilt tractors, repaired complex farm machinery, undertaken building and renovation work, and contributed to countless field operations, from cultivation and drilling to combining and potato harvesting.
He has also helped physically transform Tib Hall Farm, contributing to the construction of the main farmhouse, stud stables and cold storage buildings, as well as extensive concrete works and steel fabrication.
Yet Roy's contribution goes beyond technical expertise. His loyalty, reliability and remarkable work ethic have made him a trusted colleague and an important voice in the running of the farm. He has also generously shared his knowledge with younger members of the team.
After five decades of service, Roy is much more than an employee. He is part of the family and part of the history of Tib Hall Farm.
Congratulations, Roy, on a very well-deserved RASE Long Service Award 👏
Our thanks to Tim Cotterill, who supplied the original words on behalf of everyone at H Lowe & Sons.
