The contractors bringing in the maize harvest - maize is a high energy, starchy food that helps our cows to produce their lovely milk. It copes quite well with drought as it puts roots down to find water. It is chopped in a forage harvester, then trailers transport it to a pit where it can be ensiled to preserve. It is fed as roughage in a mix with grass silage.
