Amazing photos by of our Blank Canvas August Exhibiton Opening of Amy Grogan’s Work - The Factory Tour 🏭⭐️

For her Blank Canvas residency, artist Amy Kim Grogan transformed the gallery space into a functioning sculptural factory, turning our gaze toward the overlooked systems, and daily rhythms of work that surround us. Inspired by Ayr’s industrial heritage, local manufacturing culture, and food production, this immersive environment translated abstract conversations around labour, sustainability by making them into tangible, edible forms.

Amy’s residency involved site visits to local production spaces including Blackthorn Salt and Alex Begg Cashmere. Her process involved experimenting with mould-making using cornstarch and food-safe silicone, resulting in unexpected material pairings that ranged from custard partridges to tablet hot dog buns. The project proves that artistic inquiry and playful experimentation belong on the same assembly line.

A great day at The Auld Toy Shop! ✨

We hosted the first in-person Culture Collective get-together, bringing 23 organisations from across Scotland together for a day of training by Creative Scotland, followed by a lino printing workshop with local artists Aimee Kent and Kayley Mullen for Riso printing.

It was brilliant to meet everyone involved in this exciting project and share ideas, skills and a bit of making together.

Can’t wait to see what everyone gets up to over the next 18 months and develop our programme for this great space over the coming months and welcome you all in! 🎨

You’ll learn how to make your two colour layers using drawing or collage materials, then run your designs through the Riso printer, and fold and cut your finished zines to take home. Bring a design you made at home or make one from scratch during the session. No experience needed!

Amy Grogan’s Blank Canvas Exhibition Opening in Make last Friday! Incredible edible sculptures with unique flavour combos, and our favourite was assembling the tablet hotdogs on the conveyor belt 🌭
